With a registered card you get automatic discounts applied to your statement when you shop with the advertised merchants. Was able to save 15% off lenovo (in addition to other discounts I had) so it was a great value (but this deal just expired).
The great thing about this is you don't have to click through their website to get the discounts so you can apply other coupons and discounts from other websites in addition to the TailorMade discount.
Technically have to be invited to join but my card # was accepted and discounts applied as advertised.

Not sure but try inputting your card number here, most likely it'll work:
interesting--i was able to join without explicitly being solicited ... i went to the place on the website where i could change my email options and i found they had added alerts for a few merchants on their list with whom i'd done business in the past (circuit city, wsj, philips) ...

I used the IBM/Lenovo up to 15% off (it's been renewed throughout april). It's quite a deal especially if you qualify for student/shareholder/employee pricing since you get this discount on top of those discounts.

I could not find it on taylormade website, but does anybody know if I have to click on a merchant link while I am logged in on taylormade.americanexpress.com or I can just go directly to a merchant and use my enrolled Amex in order to get a discount?

you don't have to click on anything - go directly to the merchant's website and charge with the registered card.

Yes, and I have done such successfully.
just an example on a laptop that I purchased:
15% off shareholder discount
15% off tailormade
3.5% off fatcash (similar to ebates)
all posted without a problem.

Interesting, the terms and conditions state that the statement credit will post 6-8 weeks after the purchase.
I just received an email from Lenovo on 4/8 that my new laptop has shipped (order was placed 4/2) and the very next day (4/9) received an email from AmEx Tailormade indicating they had posted the statement credit to my AmEx account^

That was my question as well. If I go directly to www.target.com and then make a purchase with my AmEx, it works? I don't have to start at tailormade.americanexpress.com, is that what you're saying?

You're like me. I sign up for all these things, but will only use the 'net for small things where I know exactly what I'm getting. For more expensive purchases where there's any chance I'm not going to be satisfied within the 30-day return period, or things where I'm not sure exactly what I want, I only go B&M.

Why does this look, feel, smell, and otherwise seem like a hoax?
Those who put in their card info to this site (which now has a revoked security cert, BTW) might want to call AmEx about potentially fraudulent charges that have or soon will appear on their statements...

The domain still belongs to AmEx, and not some thirdparty. I signed up nearly (if not over) a month ago, and haven't seen any fraudulent charges.

I don't want to point out that this is most likely incorrect, but since the site is owned and resolves to an AmericanExpress domain, as well having a valid security certificate...
And, of course, a quick call to American Express confirms that it is, indeed, part of their site.

Good, this is one case where I'm glad to be proven wrong. However the security certificate is NOT valid (at least not from my browser) and it easy to "forge" domain names. You will notice that it tries to redirect to "123americanexpress.com"--a classic (if clumsy) spoofing technique.
Basically, if this is real, AmEx did a very poor job with the IT implementation of it.

That's why I was surprised - I checked the security certificate, and it was valid (in my browser). I wasn't getting the redirect either - not sure what you were seeing, Iceman!

Tried to register using both my personal Starwood Amex and personal Blue Cash Amex, but neither worked.
Didn't even try using small business cards.

I think the issue is that the certificate for tailormade.americanexpress.com is flagged as "For Intranet Use Only". Other than that it appears to be valid. It's not actually on Verisign's revocation list.
Verisign's online verification server actually returns an error when validating it, rather than a good/not good response. Firefox will allow access to a site in this case (barring other problems), but IE won't unless you turn off "Check for server certificate revocation".
My guess is that it was flagged for internal use by mistake, so it's not showing up on Verisign's public verification server.

1/ Purchase, Perfumania.com on 4/11/2007: Total Purchase: $44.44
6% on tailormade posted on 4/12/2007: $2.43
10% on Tailormade posted on 4/13/2007: $4.44
Total savings for this purchase: $6.87
Still waiting for savings to post from 123inkjets (20%) and Zihr (18%), both of these purchases made on 4/11/2007
I like this program, wish I knew about it earlier.
Will be soon making large purchases for kitchen appliances, should be some considerable savings then if I use merchants through Tailor Made.
Will be nice to see credits on Amex Statement instead of all charges.

We are writing to let you know that American Express has decided to terminate the TailorMade program.
As of April 14, 2008 all TailorMade discounts on American Express® Card transactions will end. Savings on
purchases made up to and including that date will still appear on your American Express Card statement, but
from April 14, 2008 onward, the TailorMade program and associated discounts will no longer be available.
