Travel Technology - Firefox 2.0.0.3 running on Windoze XP crashes when posting to FT?

Once in a while when I try to post (including the first time I tried to post this thread) Firefox crashes and I get a generic "Firefox had to close" message.

Any idea why this would happen?

I'm running 2.0.0.3 on XP SP 2 with the following extensions active:

Adblock Plus
Roboform Toolbar
Download statusbar
Gmail manager
Google browser sync
Google notebook
Google toolbar
Cingular minute minder
NoScript
Session manager
Yahoo mail notifier

It works fine for me without any extensions, so I'd suspect your extensions. It's a PITA, but uninstall them all and then install then one-by-one posting in the test are on FT until you find your culprit.

I'm not having a problem. I'm only running 3 extensions at the moment and none of them are ones you've listed. I guess you'll just have to examine them one at a time. :(

No problems with 2.0.0.3 here - XP SP2 with only two extensions (FasterFox and DOM Inspector)

Also can report no problems w/ 2.0.0.3 but I am using Vista, not XP. I have a couple of the entensions you have (NoScript and Adblock Plus) plus several others. Has this happened on any other sites you post to, or just on FT?

I'm having the same problem. It's always when replying to a thread. FF just goes away.

Of the extensions you listed, I match on these three:

Adblock Plus
Roboform Toolbar
Google toolbar

I just checked, and I'm using an old version of Roboform...6.8.9. I'm upgrading to 6.9.1

It must be Adblock Plus; I get the same issue at times but am now using Vista, not XP

Just on FT.

Odd.

I have a similar config and have no issues, except when I have a Yahoo Mail window open at the same time as FT - that crashes my Firefox. Try removing the Yahoo Mail notifier extension.

You might not have to uninstall all the extensions to test things - for example, with Adblock Plus, you can right-click on the 'ABP' icon in the status bar, and select 'disable on flyertalk' and see if the crashing happens again. Check other extensions to see if they can just be disabled, either for that site, or overall, before removing them. Unfortunately, it still may come down to removing them all and playing with each extension individually (like with NoScript, allowing and forbidding the different web sites) to see what might be causing the problem.

Ain't technology wunnerful?

its even worse for me. with firefox, i can't post at all, and i can't go to my last unread in any thread. i can sign in and sign out, and it doesn't help.

i have to use i.e. if i want to post. flyertalk is the only website that i regularly visit where i use i.e. i use firefox for everything else.

One thing you might try is the IE Tab (http://ietab.mozdev.org) extension. Once installed, right-click on a link and/or bookmark, and select 'Open in IE Tab". This will open a new tab in FF using the IE engine (but not opening IE itself). You can also set specific sites (like FT) to always open using the IE Tab. I use it for several sites that look better in IE and have had no problems with it. And this way you don't have to start a separate program just for FT.

Of course YMMV ;)

I'm using firefox 2.0.0.3 and adblock plus. If you can read this, I have no problems posting. :)

Same firefox - of the common list of extensions above, I have google - so scratch that from the list as well.

Sounds like roboform is a likely candidate.

I deactivated the Yahoo mail notifier. No crashes since.

But I just upgraded to 2.0.0.3 and did not have a lot of online time with it yet. So far I had no problem.

I'm thinking FT and Yahoo Mail don't get along on Firefox :D

Don't forget to do negative testing...

Hello! I just joined FT to discuss this problem, because I share it. Interestingly, I am in Vista Ultimate 32 & have the same issue.

For me, Firefox will crash to desktop (CTD) every 5-10 minutes ONLY when I'm editing a text box (like the one used to compose a post).

My extensions are different from all those mentioned: I have IE Tab, Menu Editor, and Throbber Button. Disabling any or all has no effect. Windows does not report the .dll affected in the crash; an inspection of the event logs only shows that Firefox.exe created a fault in module Firefox.exe... not very helpful.

Hopefully they'll come out with a fix. I was convinced it was a Firefox-Vista compatibility issue, but now I feel much better (or much worse) knowing it's not my OS at fault.

Cheers,

d

Of course YMMV ;)I tried this option, and no problems since. I have FF set to only open in an IE tab.

FF2.0.0.3 with Adblock Plus and Download status bar here with no problems. I have IETab installed for some of my corporate apps but haven't had to use it on IE. But it's worth a try if FF still crashes - no much functionality change within an IETab.

I have just recently had a few crashes out of 2.0.0.3 when posting or viewing on Flyertalk (Win XP)

My extensions are totally different - GreaseMonkey (disabled), Dom Inspector, English (Australian) Dictionary and of course the Talkback module.

The Event Log Error I get is:

Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.8.20070.30919, faulting module firefox.exe, version 1.8.20070.30919, fault address 0x0045a668.

Will have to look at this further to try and work out what is going on.

My FF doesn't crash, but when I try to post the screen just goes into a perpetual loading cycle and has to be closed. The posts typically show up, but FF is useless. Going to give the IE tab thing a shot. Thanks.

I had the problem with Adblock plus installed where it would crash every time I replied to a thread on FT

Just got a new PC, started from scratch, loaded Firefox / Adblock etc and it now works perfectly.

I rarely have problems with Firefox x.x with the nice adblock thingee. IE7 crashes about once a week though.
