You beat me to it! First time I've seen a longhaul on grabaseat. It'll have to be a return fare, I suppose. $700 to $800?

Will we be able to see what fare class it is in?, i.e. if its worth while for a MR.

"Global Saver Max fares earn Airpoints Dollars unless purchased with Airpoints Dollars™ or as a grabaseat fare"

I guess the answer is NO.

So nothing on BMI:

Star Alliance airlines x 3.0 miles x 2.0 miles x 1.5 miles x 1.0 miles x 0.5 miles x 0.25 miles

Air New Zealand - C, D, Z - U,E,O,Y,B,M,H,Q,V,W,T - -

I guess I could risk it wit UA, but probably not worth it:

Air New Zealand

Just booked one for $495.66, through the main website, not grab a seat, will try to get miles on United, and see what happens. Now I just need to find a cheap conecting flight to NYC or London.

Miles or none, still a real bargin, I have paid more than that to Sydney before!

Thats still a grabaseat fare, regardless of which part of website used to book it.

I've paid more than that flying domestic!

I know, but my onward flight will earn me miles, and it's still a nice birthday treat!

Very nice fare. I'm tempted, but 5 days is pretty short.

Edited to add: 100 seats sold out in under 30 minutes!

5 days is perfect for some ;) Unfortunately the dates don't work for me. Going to be sold out shortly (under an hour since it became live) - just 4 left.

Hopefully this means more longhaul grabaseats in future.

Grabaseat - what a great idea.

First time I have seen it, its not on offer on the Australia site.

Can sometime tell me is this just a great deal for those customers who reside in NZ or is it available for return flights.

There is a not on the CHC SYD deal (that limited return flights are avail at the same codst) yet when I try to find seats SYD CHC SYD there is nothing available in those prices.

???

Thanks

grabaseat is ex-NZ only, AFAIK

so from SYD the idea would be one-way to NZ + grabaseat (either one-way or return if you want to visit NZ twice)

Kiwi Flyer - thanks.

Thats the only option, as I have elderly parents in CHC its certainly an option.

However I would like to think that NZ will extend this offer to customers who reside in other countries, just cos we live outside of NZ does not mean we are not loyal to NZ as an airline.

I will certainly be logging into the NZ site every day to see whats available, I can certainly take advantage of deals from NZ across the Pacific.

grabaseat is ex-NZ only, AFAIK Huh?

The current grabaseat web page has a note at the bottom that states:

Limited grabaseat fares are also available from these International destinations back to New Zealand

However it does appear if someone wanted to start in (say) SYD using a grabaseat fare, they'd have to know to check for it and buy it on the .NZ site.

Hmmn. Despite what the note says, the booking engine seems incapable of booking anything close to a grabaseat fare starting from SYD. And to add insult to injury, it often adds on a $75 fuel surcharge across the Tasman ex SYD. Perhaps the note on the grabaseat site was just a poor way of trying to say that Kiwis can get back from the West Island to NZ on these fares.

Today's SFO ex CHC/WLG (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=686762) was $100 more but includes the extra 2 domestic sectors.

This makes the 3rd longhaul grabaseat (the other being PVG (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=579826)).
