Hello
I have jsut contacted Alitalia to use my points for a flight from Can to US on Northwest skypartner. They tell me I am unable to use my points to fly from CAn to the US..

Is this true?
ANd if so does this mean my Alitalia points are useless living in Canada?

Interesting. This would mean you can only book award travel on AZ or codeshare flights, not on non-codeshared partner flights.

Anyone have more info on this?

The agent obviously had no clue what they were talking about.
Call again. It's possible

No, it's wrong.

Perhaps it helps to say you want an ST award and not an AZ award... it sounds strange but true. Perhaps the requested flight is a code share and you can NOT have it with the AZ number, no 5th right.

Good luck and use the rule :
".. no? Ok, thanks a lot" hang up and redial again.

Exactly. Some agents don't know and give some response, some agents don't listen and still give a response, but eventually some agent will know and give the answer -- with the answer being that AZ miles can be used for intra-North America trips on partner airlines.
