American Express Membership Rewards - I prefer the old online activity pages

The new online activities page isn’t even working correctly for me. They must still be working out some bugs.

I wish the site would update CC charges instantly instead of having to wait a few days for the charges to appear. A few other CC sites offer this and it is a really nice feature.

When did the online activity page change? I have not noticed any difference in mine...

I, too, wish that charges would show up immediately. With my MBNA (now B of A) Amtrak card, I can see a pending charge almost instantaneously. That being said, AMEX's website is far superior and I like that each holder on an account has a unique card number.

I think it will take some time getting used to the new site. I have noticed that it is noticeably slower than before.

I agree that AMEX has a better website than any other account I have (BofA, Citi, HSBC).

you mean how each card is separated? thats the only change (a while ago) i noticed.

I saw the new layout for the first time this afternoon (Eastern USA timezone), and the differences are not subtle. It doesn't look finished, I wouldn't be surprised if it disappears and reappears a few times as they work out the formatting issues.

no differences here..

unless youre all talking about end of year summary?

spierce and fuzz, i believe credit card charges show up online faster than charge card charges.

I guess they're phasing it in slowly, Kage.

As far as pending charges, I guess with the charge cards it doesn't really matter, as there's no (stated) limit you're drawing away from.

OK, it's officially on crack now; I've just had a payment that I made last week showing up as paid on "5/5/2007" (it used to show the right date, even with the new site layout, as earlier this month) and a charge from a pizza place on Friday as "12/23/2007".

I logged out and in again, and even tried a different browser- same results. It's just not ready for Prime Time, AmEx!

Evidently. My accounts are still on the "classic" system, but my wife's accounts are on the new one.

I can't even look at my recent transactions for another 48 hours while my statement is being processed.

This message is normal, unrelated to the change, and in my experience the downtime will be much shorter than 48 hours, typically under 12 hours.

I've only seen the new system once (or at least I think I have), about a month or so ago, but I've yet to see it again since. I didn't like it very much, although that could be because I simply wasn't used to it.

Interesting. I've yet to have online access be down while it prepares my statement(s). It's nearly 100% reliable for me (they've had quite a few less "System Temporarily Unavailable" issues lately).

my account has changed.

1. no indication of which card transaction is on
2. no closing date listed in current activity
3. small font size on printout

The site was down earlier today and I think they are still working on it. The graphical optional view is interesting

I AGREE WITH OP. The new format just plain stinks! You are now forced to see charges for all cardholders including secondary card holder or pick just one card holder and wait for the page to refresh. On the old system you could look at all the charges made by you and each secondary card holder in one easy view page. I wonder how much money Amex spent improving the system. Amex should get togeher married to Yahoo who messed with there finance message boards and lost a bunch of customers.

Hrmph. That should read "improving". The old system wasn't broke, so why fix it?! :(

What is amex thinking? I don't mind the new way just make it possible to view the old way. If the statement comes this way, it is going to add a ton of time in paying the bill.

i kind of like the single listing, but id like some kind of code for each charge, letting you know what card its on

missing closing date and small font size are a nuisance but nothing major

yeah, something is up with the new activity page. The itemized total and the amount due never adds up correctly.

Went away on a trip and returned to the "new and improved" site.

I hate it. Perhaps I'll get used to it, but I'm wondering what the impetus to change it was.

I always thought Amex had one of the best, easiest to navigate sites.

I had trouble viewing the site this morning (charges weren't showing up) but it could have been that they apparently design for Internet Explorer.

Just checked a few minutes ago (00:30 US-Eastern) and it seems to be fixed, in FireFox. Still slow, but I'm not sure why it's such a big issue. I can now see all of my card accounts in an AJAX designed website, without having to jump back to the Statement of Accounts to switch between them.

I kind of like the "Graph" feature as well - I can see that while living in Japan, my spending dropped (because Japan is largely cash-based, still), and I can see whenever I had to purchase textbooks for class (spending went WAY up). :D

Does anybody know if these changes to the AmEx website will be launched in other countries (EU)?

The big issue for me is increased time to read when there are additional card holders. It is now slower because, instead of all cardholders separated on one easy to read page, now there are options to read everything clumped to gether or wait for the page to refresh each time you want to see a cardholders individual detail.

If there were no additinal cardholders on my account then this would not be a problem for me. But there are, so it is.

They've finally(!) fixed this bug.

I'm also finding this very frustrating. Its seems like they need to rethink how this works. As long as they group the data well, I really don't care if its all web 2.0ey.

** They did make it easier to switch between additional card holder activity, but there isn't any way to view it all @ once.

Not sure if this is due to the old or the new system, but it is clearly on drugs.

My statement closed 3 weeks ago, and posted a 33K outstanding balance. A week later things went on the fritz.
+ Thursday it showed zero outstanding balance.
+ Friday my outstanding balance was $33K.
+ Monday I made an online payment of $28K
+ Monday I also sent a check for the remainder
+ Tuesday my outstanding balance was a negative $12K (!)
+ Wednesday my outstanding was $4K
+ Thursday the balance zero.
Calls in to Amex explained absolutely nothing.

Have you followed this thread:
http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=689291

It explains what is happening to my account and it is not good at all. Please call CS and start complaining. Maybe they will realize that their new system has a lot of flows.

I had not and am sorry you are having problems worse than mine. It is just that when I spend upwards of $1M, I'd expect it to be correct, and need it to be since I use it as a business tool.

I already complained though. Got a callback within 1 hour. That was nice, except it didn't fix anything...
