Does SAS have or plan to have fingerprint-based check-in and what's the status of it?

I saw some ads for it on the T-bana in Stockholm (Sweden).

Apparently, there's this in relation to SAS Braathens (Norway):

Apparently so:

SAS has already begun such a system in Sweden and it will be in place in Denmark from this summer. Only Norway's Data Inspectorate is preventing the procedure from becoming fully Scandinavian.

At LLA your fingerprint is scanned at check-in and rescanned at the gate to verify your identity. This started out as an experiment, but has been permanented, and there's been talk on rolling out the same program at other airport - don't know the status on that.

The system doesn't store your entire fingerprint - just a few significant areas - and the record is deleted after take-off, according to SAS. The whole thing's optional, you can elect to show photo ID at the gate instead.

Just to make things clear:
The fingerprint scan is not used to identify you as a passenger for CI purposes. It is only used between the point you deposit your luggage and later pass the gate, to make sure it is the exact same person doing both things. The system does not keep track of that the fingerprint actually belongs to the pax in the reservation records - it is just a match between the scan made at the baggage drop counter and the one at the gate.
So, you can not use it for CI, but the airline use it to make sure you are the same person at the two stages of the CI/boarding process.

So, the ads runnng in Stockholm now is actually a bit overstating.

BTW, it is implemented at most small airports in Swedn now I think. Used it at VXO last week.

Just wanted to comment the fingerprint thing as well! I think it's great!
No need to swipe the card even at the turnstiles any more... Fingerprint is enough as long as you've used it at the bagage drop... Although it's just a second too slow IMO (much slower than the cardswiper at least), it works great!

Just remember to use your right hand to identify yourself at bagage drop as the reader is on the right at the turnstiles...

I refused the scan, and used my passport instead, worked fine, but the gate rep fumbled about trying to locate my page and delay others, because of this.... :)

I react this way after having the StarCheck system and some Swedish supervisor overruling the Danish one at CPH a few years ago about a Singapore visa - they made me buy a one-way full-fare ticket out of SIN once!

I was flying TG, and they couldn't do anything about it, as they contracted out the ground services to SK....

Then they (the SK reps) chickened out (after my having paid for the ticket) and only gave me a BP to BKK, not all the way to SIN!

What nonsense!

Where did all this agression come from? You can be sure that the information is deleted. Laws in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries are very strikt about information like this. There is a gouverment department supervising the collection and if given promission to keeping of the information. If not given promission to keep the information (like with SAS) there for sure will not be any keeping af the information!
