Due to availability of fares, I'm looking for an inexpensive place to spend the night close to HKG airport... We (wife and I) arrive 8 pm , depart 11:45 am, next day... Been to HKG many times, so no real need to do any "visiting"... I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks!

only hotels near HKG airport I know of, are the Novotel-Very nice Modern and The Airport Hotel, Nice but Expensive.

Could not find any cheap Hotels near the airport.

Cheapest i found was at Silvermine bay about £28.00 a night, but that involved a train journey into city and then a ferry to the hotel.

Take a Beach Air Matress and overnight at HKG airport itself??

Easy way
Exit HKG immigration
Go to BLUE taxi area.
Taxi over the mountain to Mui Wo and Silvermine Bay Hotel. About 140-150 HKG each way.
Last I stayed breakfast was included with free view of the beach and ferry terminal.

Cheap way
Use the bus instead of taxi.
It's possible but I haven't tried it.

Exciting way
On return take bus from Mui Wo to the park with the Big Buddha. Take cable car to airport. Probably not a good idea with serious luggage. Chose a day without massive fog. (My last TWO attempts at this but January is like that in HKG)

Happy wandering

I'd also suggest taking the bus to a hotel in the city. The bus will cost you HK$40 each way and - depending on your hotel choice - it is like a door-to-door taxi transfer. That's why I prefer the bus to the train.
The IBIS is available from abaout HK$380 for example. So the 'overnight in HKG' would cost you 2 x 2 x 40 + 380 = 540 for both of you. The bus ride will take some time, but it is really very convenient as buses run quite often till late and are equipped with luggage racks. And you will be able to dine in a local restaurant!
To sum up: The solution suggested is very cheap and convenient, but requires some time.
