Air New Zealand Air Points - Cure for the Hard BP Bed?

There seems to be some consensus that despite the overall superior BP experience, the bed (on a 777 at least) is very hard. I have no personal experience yet; I rely on others. Two questions:
- is there an impromptu fix, e.g. putting an extra duvet or pillow(s) below?
and
- does NZ/VS have a long-term fix?
My wife and I will be traveling LAX-LHR in late April.

Having flown on NZ recently (on the 747), I did not find the beds to be hard or uncomfortable in any way. I found them adequate even for side sleeping, and they seem softer to me than other business class beds that use the same surface for sitting and sleeping.
Whether they have already improved the beds to make them softer, or whether the perception of hardness is just subjective, I'm not sure.

When I flew BP last month, they provided a mattress pad that cushioned things nicely. Full disclosure, I typically sleep on a rather firm bed.

Haven't flown there (yet) but from report will be using an extra blanket to lie on :)
Personally I find the BP bed quite hard and end up waking every couple of hours or so. The solution for me is to sleep on top of the mattress pad AND the duvet and use a travel rug as a cover. I find the ambient cabin temperature more than warm enough for just a blanket.
I ask for the travel rug from an FA as soon as I board which usually elicits the response that there's a duvet behind the seat. When I explain what it's for, I've always had one provided, although once the comment was made that "we might not have enough to go around". (That's why I get in early with the request!)

Found it a bit hard and ended up sleeping up on top. Cabin was warm so no need for extra blankets. Fantastic business class seat, you'll love it.

I didn't find it hard - to be fair, I wasn't lying down on it for very long - but I thought it was fantastically comfortable as a bed. Compared to a wedgie bed like the QF skybed or the older generation 'cradle style' business class seats I've tried (QF and NZ old style, UA, AC, SQ, SK, TG, OZ) it is in a completely different league for sleeping comfort and a sense of privacy and space. My only gripe would be that as a seat it's a bit limited, but I think that's a more than acceptable trade-off.
