Hilton HHonors - What comp would you ask for

Checked into a new property tonight, has only been open 8 days since the refurb was done.
Room 1 - 2 double beds, requested king
Room 2 - King room but the room had not been cleaned.
Room 3 - The room smelled horrible, could not figure out what it was, opened the bathroom and someone had left a "present" in the facility. not sure how this room passed inspection from housekeeping.
Room 4 - FD Clerk went up with me. Room was fine. Until 15 minutes ago when I went to change for bed and the FREAKING CURTAIN on my 2nd story room is missing. The white sheer drape is there but the heavy curtain is missing. The rod is there but no curtain. I will stare at an orange light all night.
Comped room does not me no good since it just does not get charged to my client. I was thinking an apology and enough points to equal one night. (25,000)
Bad thing is I am back here in 2 weeks for 3 nights for 3 rooms. Maybe I should already look for another property. Sad though, this place is only 1 week old and really is a beautiful place. It will be nice if they get there act together.

If the hotel management is so poor that it let all of that stuff happen my feeling is that they are not going to bend over backwars to make you happy. Maybe instead of a comped night you should offer to pay for the room (since you said you're not paying for it anyways) and just ask for the 25,000 points (and an apology if they haven't done so already). This way you will get the points for your stay and the 25,000 on top of that. Also, its time to find a new property (even if its not with Hilton).

I typically have asked for the hotel to give me enough HHonors points so that I could stay at that same hotel for free the next time. In February, I was told that Hilton is now able to send you "be my guest" certificates. These are good for one year for a standard room at the same type of property (hilton=hilton, HGI=HGI, etc). The Hilton certs are not good at international hotels, FYI.
I've written a handful of very detailed posts on my strategy to "complain" to hotels. You can search for it if you're interested.
Good luck

The more the merrier - ask for the highest amount you feel comfortable with.
The first thing I do when checking intoa room is close the curtains so I would have noticed that right off. I did, however, stay at a hotel once (name long since forgotten) where there was no shower head, just a tub, and not a big tub at that. Of course it was the next morning when I discovered this so all I could do was complain at checkout - they did somethng for me and it must have been satisfactory because the details are forgotten. You always remember the bad situations in painful detail if they are not resolved to your staisfaction.

this is usually what I base it on as well.. what would it cost me in points to stay here again, then ask for that at the higher award rate b/c that is usually what I find when I'm searching for an award

I'd ask for 50,000 pts and NEVER stay at that property again. One....maybe two problems is the max....after that, the property is on my blackball list.
Travel safe!

Would you mind telling us which property this happened at?

Somewhere between Room 2 and Room 3 I would have been checking into another hotel and calling AMEX to dispute the cc charges. The OP should be fined 10000 HH points for putting up with such idiotic hotel ineptness. I too would like to know the hotel name/location so I can avoid it.

I agree I have never switched rooms more then once. When getting a double versus a king, if it only a night or two I would keep the room.

The property was the newly refurbed Augusta, Georgia Doubletree.
The next morning I asked to speak to the manager and she comped the entire bill of $153.00. I asked for a bill prior to the credit and she gave me a bill then a second bill with the credit to card. My customer will be billed regardless by my firm so I needed to have proof. She looked at me weird and I explained that the reason why I wanted a bill before the credit.
Before I even started telling the story, she said they were comping me so I did not even have the chance to ask for extra points. I am still thinking of calling the diamond desk to grovel for a few extra points.
The property is very nice overall, only opened a week since the refurb. Plasma TVs, small frigs, new beds, new tub/shower, new curtains, carpets, etc. The lobby was very nice, the check in area was cool.
As a diamond I did not receive an upgrade. The top 2 floors are still being worked on. I did receive a coupon for 2 breakfasts, 2 waters, and a coupon for a free starbucks from the lobby.
I am back there again Tuesday and Wednesday night so it will be interesting to see how they treat me a return guest.

I need all my points not to lose 10K;)
I would have checked out and headed to Marriott but Augusta was full and I had to use Diamond force just to get into the DT. I was worried of walking out at 7 PM with a reso anywhere and getting stuck. There are not a great ### of properities in Augusta....1 Marriott, no SPG, and no other Hiltons, ES, HGI, or even nice Hamptons. In Atlanta, I would have left after #2. (no pun intended)

Also forgot to mention that I woke up at 2AM to use the restroom......stepped on a broken off tip end of a screwdriver left in the room from the refurb.
It cut the living fool out of my foot and it bleed for 20 minutes. I was one p@@@@ off camper around 2:15.
All told 4 different rooms, no curtain in room 4, a screw driver on the carpet and a punctured bleeding foot at 2AM......besides that the stay was perfect:p

Maybe I'm just a naive goody goody ... I dunno ... but I have ethical problems with this. Oh well ...

In my case it is called CYA.
We bill clients based on a per diem that is negotiated into the contract. The per diem is set based upon who is traveling and of course the city. For Augusta it is $175 per day. Therefore my client was billed $175 for my travel diem plus other cost associated with getting there and my time.
We never give the receipts to the client unless they request. However this client is a government entity and since the contract is under a RFQ, it only makes sense to have a copy in case they ask or want to have it. Showing a $0 bill only makes a bigger problem and makes the govy wonder why they are paying $175 on other days....yeah I know.....but it is govt and it makes no sense when it comes to $$$

Christ, where you in Baghdad?!? 200,000 points is a good starting point. Hope you get a tetanus shot.
