Hilton HHonors - Suggestions for non-Manhattan Hotel for Jacob K. Javits Convention Center

I'm looking at options for attending a conference at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (lower Manhattan if I'm not mistaken). Problem is the hotels are way overpriced. I'm thinking of the commute in from NJ. Any suggestions which would have easy transport access? Easy access from EWR would be a bonus.

I did a search and there are a few older threads for generic Manhattan access, I'm looking for specifics with respect to the Convention Center if possible.

My recommendation is the Hilton Fort Lee.

Anywhere that you can pickup a NJ Transit train to Penn Station would work. Pick one on the same line that serves EWR and you'll have it all. Then from Penn Station, walk 3 avenues west to the Javitz....

PATH train access would leave you halfway across town at 6th Ave. but it's still doable.

The Hyatt Jersey City on the Hudson is very nice. The PATH train is right below the hotel and it takes 3 minutes to WTC, one stop. I highly recommend it.

Sorry I thought I was in the Hyatt forum. Hilton I would recommend the Doubletree in Jersey City, you can also walk to the PATH station.

If not the Sheraton Suites Weehawken is your best bet - ferry steps from hotel takes you right to the back of the Javits center. You will still need to walk around to front for access - but much closer than Penn Station and ferry tkts similar in price to train.

Be warned last ferry is around 10-ish (check NYCWaterways.com for schedule). After that a taxi is probably $25-40-ish from Manhattan - one of the few times you negiate price before you get in a yellow taxi. Or you can always call Carmel (212-666-6666) to take you home.

FYI - Javits is on 11th Ave from 34th to about 40th streets, which New Yorkers consider mid-town, not downtown. :)

good luck!

I'm not sure what the room rates are but other options would include the HI,DT OR HH at EWR. They all have airport shuttle service and you can catch NJ Transit to NY Penn Station. Also check out the HH at Newark Penn Station from which you can also opt fpr PATH. HH Penn Station gives you some great nearby restaurants.

There are a few more options a bit further out.

Hilton Newark Gateway is right across from Newark Penn Station. Take PATH, Amtrak, or NJ Transit in.

Hilton Woodbridge is just up the road from the Metropark station. You can take Amtrak or NJ Transit.

Hilton East Brunswick is about five minutes from the New Brunswick railway station. From there you can take Amtrak or NJ Transit.

Typically, the further out from the city the cheaper. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how long you're willing to commute.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'll look through things and decide how far I want to ride the train. ;)

This URL might be handy (http://www.betterchecker.com/hilton/). Input an address and it will show you all the HHonors hotels within an adjustable number of miles.

Regarding your question, given your constraints I'd likely choose the Doubletree in Jersey City and take the PATH train in. Personally, I'd just bite the bullet and stay in NYC. What are your dates?

Just my 2 cents worth, have you looked at all the rates for the Manhattan Hampton Inn's? Many are really nice and priced less than most hotels.

Also, if you are attending a show at Javits, go onto their website, often they have hotel deals or you can find great hotel deals thru the actual show's (the one you are attending) site (it can be accessed thru the Javits site). For me just being at a show is a schelp, having to then commute out of the city, is too much trouble. Hope that helps.

Last time I looked there is a D/T hotel in Jersey City from which you can take the PATH train into Manhattan and thence to the Javits Center. :)

That's a great point, and don't even limit yourself to Hampton Inns. I've recently stayed at the new Hamptonn Inn Seaport (in the Financial District) for $109/night, at the HGI Times Square (about 10-15 walk to Javits) for $117, and at the Doubletree Metropolitan (on Lex, across the street from Waldorf) for $129. Just check the rates for your dates, and see if you'd be pleasantly surprised (there is no guarantee, of course)...
