American Express Membership Rewards - AmEx security alert caused by Disney Hotel

First - I wasn't at Disney by choice, just in case you wondered.

I stay in hundreds of hotels a year, and every one of them runs my card when I check in. No problems.

AmEx cut me off and sent a security alert for this same transaction at the Disney Boardwalk Hotel. Just a random fluke, or does Disney send an unusual type of transaction? They said is was one of those "one dollar" transactions, but doesn't every hotel send that?

AmEx was probably trying to save you from yourself.

That's one possibility ;)

I've had several security alerts, but they were absolutely random. I only had it with smaller amounts, in restaurant, at the gasstation, never with the higher amounts.

That's odd. I once had a letter sent (cost $.67, IIRC), and nothing happened.

Ah - too true, and in the end I didn't spend anything beyond things the master bill covered that was charged to group.

I do, however note that your screen name is quite close to Dopey - a secret liking for Disney??

Maybe the Boardwalk is just that much classier than the "hundreds" of other hotels you stay at? Maybe AmEx is used to the pattern of your hotel rooms being charged by the hour, not the night? ;)

Seriously, why would anyone here think less of you for being at Disney by choice?

Maybe the transaction sounded a little bit "Mickey Mouse" :D

You mean they had the decency to tell you?

That neglected to tell me when my card was compromised, i found out when I tried to buy something and had to suffer the embarrasment of it not being accepted and a whole queue of people looking at me.

Oh and AmEx 'Fraud' algorithm? The one that questioned a £10 CD purchase at LGW (even though I buy lots of music), and no the merchant did not do a Code 10. Yet the same 'algorithm' failed to notice ~£4k of cash withdrawls over the space of 1 minute from 3 different ATM's in Spain that are 9km apart. Gee thanks guys for such a smart alogrithm. More unhappy that I had told them to switch the cash withdrawl function off for the supps on my account, and they forgot to.

Thanks,
Richard

Seriously, why would anyone here think less of you for being at Disney by choice? once the new FS and rental properties (hopefully some managed by FS) open, i'll be fine going when i have kids :D

Have a magical day!

Hate Amex and their security b..s.. it only tells them when to screw up your plans when you least want them messed up
