Today is my birthday. I checked in early to Hilton Amsterdam. Surprisingly, it showed in their system that it was my birthday. The computer sang a happy birthday tune for me. The Front Desk gave me a birthday welcome to Amsterdam. Very pleasant experience. Upgraded my room. Then a few hours later after taking a nap, there was a knock on my door. They delivered custom made birthday cake for me. AND a bottle of Champange for me and my wife. WOW! What a treat!. Nice to be a diamond member.

Happy Birthday!

Great to hear Hilton takes good care of their members. It happened to me once in a different hotel chain and I have no status with them. I got a good size cake on the dinning table when I returned to the hotel, very good feeling when you are away from home and family:)

Umm.. strange, but where does a guy list his birthday in his hilton profile? I can't find it on the hhonors website for some reason.

I'll be staying at the Conrad Singapore for my birthday (4/1/07, I kid you not) with my wife and daughter, so I'd best find some way to get a dinner for two or wine preordered. Checking in 3/31 and checkout 4/2 so I'm not likely to get the computer sing "happy birthday" for me I guess.

Take really good notes and do a trip report when you return, if you can.

Looks like we are spending a week in AMS instead of Paris...can't seem to get the Paris folks to give me an approval for a GLONP, so we are going to the Amsterdam Hilton instead.

Take good notes! Have a great birthday!

Are you able to have breakfast in the lounge OR the restaurant? Did you get upgraded!

Have a good time....think, "trip report," "trip report,"....

First of all Happy Birthday.

Hotels sometimes take very good care of their guest on their birthday/aniversary. We had the same experience at the Berlin Hilton last year on my wifes birthday (i informed the lounge staf in advance). They served us champagne and birthdaycake in the lounge when we cam for breakfast.
At the IC Berlin the lounge staf came to our room last year, singing happy birthday for me while handing over a bottle of champagne and a birthdaycake + gift.
We celebrated my dad's birthday (buffet diner for 26 persons) twice at the Hilton Soestduinen. All they gave him was.........the bill.
Next week I'll be celebrating my birthday at the Cologne Hilton. Will let you know what they came up with.

In my case, I believe it is the passport informatoin the hotel has when checkin.

I recall I was asked my passport in Conrad Singapore so some singing may be happening to you.:p

Got a nice cake and bottle of wine at the Hilton ADT in Paris 2 years ago. I emailed ahead of time requesting a room on the executive floor, and mentioned in the email that we were celebrating mrs drnp's birthday during the stay.

Was gold at the time, and received room on executive floor pre blocked, and cake and wine were delivered about an hour after check in.

Sometimes it pays to email the hotel ahead of time to let them know its a special day.

I'll be there on an award stay at the Conrad - not sure at all if they upgrade on awards (at least, status upgrades on award stays are very likely to get last priority if they do upgrade).

Just a 2 nights / 3 days stay though - not at all enough to do much sightseeing around singapore (especially with a 2 y.o daughter who likes birds, animals, and pretty butterflies, so thats the zoo or jurong bird park on one day, and sentosa - nice and close to the conrad - on the other, leave what's left of April 2 for shopping around, before I catch my plane back home in the evening)

My wife and I spend a few nights at the Conrad Hong Kong a few years back, and our wedding anniversary occurred during our stay. I asked the concierge for a romantic restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. He recommended several, including the hotel restaurant. We decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised to have the waiter congratulate us on our anniversary and provide us with a complimentary bottle of champagne. We didn't get a cake, but they also gave us free dessert.

We had a great experience at the Conrad HK. As a Diamond, we received access to the lounge (great breakfast, and afternoon tea). The service was great, and the location was very convenient. Plus we got a pair of the cute Conrad bears (construction worker bear) and a rubber duck. I definitely recommend the hotel to anyone. ^

For two successive birthdays, the Hilton Phuket Arcadia has added a birthday cake for me on top of the usual fruit display. The cakes have been fantastic (in at least on case, it substituted for dinner)...

The Grand Wailea gave us a bottle of champagne (OK, really sparkling wine for you oenophiles) for our anniversary, as did the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

I agree with others that you should let the hotel know of special event. Hilton Paris ADT gave us a cake and bottle of champagne for our anniverary and upgraded us to the exec floor (we are both diamonds). Good luck!

Yeppers. I let the hotel reservations agent I was talking to know 4/1 is my birthday, and asked her if she had any suggestions how I could celebrate it with my wife at the conrad. Let's see what she turns up.

My birthday is April 1st too. I don't think I've met any other people with the same Birthday as me though...

Although, joy of joys, this will be the first year that I spend it in three cities. :) NB, I'll be transiting Singapore for 8 hours on April 1 2007, on the way to the USA from Jakarta... Anyhow, here's hoping that I get something special at the Grand Hyatt Bali on the morning of my birthday.

In other words you'll spend most of it on a plane. I sure hope there's a cute stewardess onboard :)

Happy birthday.

I have had similar service from Conrad HK. Both on my actual birthday 06 and 2 days prior this year. A personally signed card from the entire exec floor staff and a piece of Tiramisu.

In Singapore at Conrad the manager of the exec floor told me a cake was going to be sent up in an hour (noon ish on my birthday this year). Never saw sight of it and when we checked out the next day this came up as he asked how I liked it. I told him and he offered to get one for me and said he had requested it. I declined as although it is a great benefit and very appreciated it wasnt such a big deal to do more than say thank you but maybe next time to.

I had a nice experience at the Beverly Hilton for my birthday. My wife (unbeknownst to me) called the catering manager, and arranged for a piece of cake and a glass of milk (skim, because she said I had enough calories with the cake already). :) It was such a nice surprise. She said that she offered to pay, but the gentleman who helped her put this together said it was gratis! (btw--the cake was delicious!)

There was a birthday cake waiting for me when I checked in at the Conrad Bangkok last week. I never mentioned my birthday to anyone at Hilton, but it must have been entered into my profile sometime when I handed my passport over on checking in at some other Hilton property outside the US. In any event, the cake was great and came with a box of candles and short note.

I agree. My husband and I are at the Cannes Hilton and it's our anniversary. We were upgraded to a king sea view suite. Then a bottle of wine and candies was delivered. A couple hours later, a beautiful chocolate cake with a candle was also sent to our room. This has been a wonderful stay.^

Wirelessly posted (My IV to the Net: BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Domestically, I emailed someone (sorry don't recall his name / title) at the Drake and in a roundabout way mentioned that it was my son's birthday. We recv'd a very good chocolate (birthday) cake and 4 cold milks.
