Starwood Preferred Guest - How to upgrade res booked pre-cat change?

Hi all,

I booked a room at the Westin Kierland for August, before it went from a Cat 4 to a Cat 5. So they charged me 10K points several months ago, but if I booked it today it would be 12K points.

If I call to upgrade (with points) will I be charged an additional 2K points per night (to go to the cat 5) plus the points required to upgrade?

Also, anyone have any luck upgrading in advance (using points) to club level or to a suite?

Yes, you would be. If it were me, I'd leave it as is and ask to upgrade using Starpoints at check-in.
