I am booked on a MAD-CDG tomorrow with a flexible ticket but my meeting finished early this evening so as I was next to the airport I raced to Barajas, just in time - I thought.

I arrived at 19h55 with the last flight empty and leaving at 20h50, perfect, not!

Check in was run by Air Europa who told me that they couldn't make the change automatically and that I had to go to the AF ticket counter in a different terminal. Fine, off I go - only to find that by the time I got there (20h02) the Ticket counter had closed (at 20h00).

So I call Air France (Platinum line) and get a typically pleasant agent who checks my ticket then checks availability and then announces (at 20h06) that the flight had closed... at 20h05...

Back to check-in who confirmed that there was still availability and they hadn't closed the flight yet - but of course, they couldn't do anything only AF could - but they couldn't.

So how does it end?

It ends with me sitting here now in a dumpy airport hotel in Madrid with nothing better to do than to write an entry in Flyertalk (very sad).

Could I have done anything different? Should I be at home tonight?
