Starwood Preferred Guest - Getting the discover card bonus via SPG

Discover card has a 5% bonus for booking travel with airfare/hotels through you Discover card till March 31st up to 1k. Unfortun. most of my travel is starting April 1st.

Would anyone who has a discover card know
-f I do a prepaid rate, will that be charged the same way as a regular rate (just charged in advance)

If I understand correctly, Discover gives you a 5% rebate on purchases from certain merchants. In this case if the merchant type shows up as a hotel, Discover adds that 5% to your cashback total. So whatever service or goods you purchase from them doesn't matter.

Yes....

However, you would only earn the bonus if it is actually charged to your Discover account before March 31st.

Unfortunately (in this case anyway), not all 'prepaid' rates are immediately charged to a credit card.......as it has been my experience that some SPG hotels don't actually charge your card until much closer to your stay.

IOWs....it's a crapshoot.

FWIW, this bonus is/was based on a maximim of $1000 in travel charges (airfare, hotels, etc.).......resulting in a maximum GetMore bonus of no more than $50 in total over the 3 month period.

IMO, it would have been better if the limit was $1000 per month. ;)
