Starwood Preferred Guest - starwood vs. HHonors Programs

I currently am a starwood member. I joined them about 6 months ago. I do not spend to much time at the properties, 4 stays so far. I have read that with all the devaluations that starwood has been having and alot of overall complaints; would it be best for me to switch to hhonors. I have the amex through starwood right now. I do not spend a ton of time in the hotels, but occationally, but i would spend a decent amount of money of the credit cards spg/hhonors credit card. I really just want to accumulate points for a vacation or so. What programs would probably suit me best for that.

I would look at where you want to go first, since you are going to use a credit card. If both programs have decent hotels in that location asn they cost about the same for points/ cc spend, I would choose SPG, because of the no black out dates. Hilton may be a little harder to get into. I think the Hilton amex is better these days, but first worry about the location/ hotel, then the program.

hilton:

- more locations
- free bfast for gold above


spg:

- more flexible use of pts
- better chance of upgrades at higher status

there are alot more difference but these are the biggest ones that affect my travel.

But with 4 stays in 6 months it does not really matter, does it? And accumulating points by CC only is hard work...
