Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Would CX allow standby in F on an AA award tix ?
There are 2 of us : 1 is confirmed in Z and myself in U ( Biz class ). Should I take a chance and change my res to a later date, and show up with my companion and try to stand by ?
I have learned from previous post(s) that I will not be allowed to try to upgrade, even with paid upgrade, because my ticket is issued using AA miles.
Any more help you folks can provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks
My experience is to better have the correct booking class (i.e. Z) for a different date than to have the lesser booking class (i.e.U) for the date you want to travel on.
Unless it's JFK-HKG non-stop or LHR-HKG on a peak business day, chances are you will be allowed on the plane with a Z ticket for a different date....
CX absolutely will NOT touch a ticket issued by AA, especially an award ticket. Unless you can contact AA for reissue to "Z" on the date of departure (highly unlikely, since Z is likely to be unavailable up to departure), you are better off "standing by" for the flight.
Sorry for not making it clear : YES : I will change my res to a later date flight in Z and go to the airport on an earlier date and standby.
Thanks.

i did it twice wihtin 3 months and no problem even with oneworld award (syd-hkg and hkg-bkk). also no problem to downgrade seat from Z to U if no first availability but this could be very much depending on the flexibility of check-in agent. just be sure there is no routing change. good idea is to check with EF/asia miles sites to see availabilty before heading to airport. in theory all changes have to go through AA if the award is issued by AA.
