Other Car Rental Programs/Partners (ie. Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt) - Any recent experiences with Fox, Advantage, or any other minor brand car rental @ LAX

Fox, Advantage, & Midway have really good rates for the days I need a car, but I've always been put off about renting from a lesser company. I know in the past some posters have had really bad experiences with Fox, but that was a while ago, and things can change.

Any tales to tell?

Delux Rental Car, formerly Ace, has the best rates I've ever seen. I rented a Chrysler PT Cruiser for $88.99/week recently. The lines were long, and it is off airport away from other rental car places, so you have to call them to pick you up. But if you are looking for a cheap, nice car, they are the best.

I had a good experience with Advantage Rent-a-Car. Had a booking for $22/day for a full size vehicle with no real hassles...went in to the counter, and there really wasn't a sales pitch, just a half-baked attempt to sell CDW. Plenty of cars on the lot, was upgraded to a Chrysler 300 for only $3 more per day.

Now I know this isn't typical, but I found my experience to be pleasant, even though the rental lot is in the hood area of Inglewood.

I am going to give Midway a try given that I'm renting the car during a 7 hr layover and can't be bagged to pay the $10 facility charge. Midway uses the LAX Radisson shuttle.

Tried Midway. Shuttle (shared with the Radisson and another Century Blvd hotel) is supposed to operate every 15 mins but seems slower than that. Saw at least 4 National/Alamo shuttles pass by. High pressure to buy insurance including asking for proof of liability (backed down when we were going to walk). Slow to get car, and to return car. Fortunately the shuttle pulled up just when we were ready to go.

Not worth the hassle of saving $10.
