I was hoping that someone might be able to suggest a company...reasonably priced for a one-way from FLL (Fort Lauderdale Airport) to Stuart FL (approx. 1 HR 30 Min North). From April 7 to 9th....so far I have spent almost an entire day getting nowhere. Thanks!
That is easter = hot, hot season! Prices are very high!
Try Alamo, National... good luck! I can happen, that you get to the counter and they tell you "Sorry, no car....others kept the car longer than they should have ..."
I got pretty good prices through COSTCO and opodo.de.

Call some of the local FLL Enterprise offices. They might be your best bet - sometimes they allow one-ways over a short distance like that for regular daily rate + a minor surcharge.

When you are contacting rental agencies at FLL, call a non-airport location. They seem to be better about one ways!!!

Enterprise doesn't offer ONE-WAY-RENTALS ... at least not when I asked some time ago.

WARNING: DO NOT use Avis C03___9 AWD discount code anymore. I got a
very reliable confirmation from an inside guy that this code is black
listed now. Effective immedately, all benfits associated with code are
removed(including free LDW insurance), anyone use this code will pay
maxiumum rack rate regardless of reservation or website showing rate as
well as company ID must be produced. A warning flag has been raised on
this AWD and most likely you will be questioned about where you got the
code. All in all, this code is nothing but trouble from now on.
Oh well, it was great while it lasted.

It depends on where you're renting. Here's my super-quick explanation of how it works.
Enterprise is divided up into a couple dozen or so "groups", which are basically sub-companies within the Enterprise corporation. Each "group" covers a certain region of the country. In sparsely populated areas of the country, a "group" may cover several states. In more densely populated areas such as Florida and California, there are actually several "groups" within the state. Enterprise often allows one-way rentals within a "group", often with a small drop charge. They don't publish this, but most Enterprise employees know which cities are within their "group" and if they allow one-ways there. For a short trip, such as what the OP is looking for, it might be worth a phone call to see if it's possible. And as Lehava mentioned, the off-airport locations are usually more flexible, both with the pickup and the return.
Hope that helps.

Thanks! I wasn't aware of this. I believe the same is true with Budget!?!
I asked the Naples/Florida office ... no one way rentals to MIA.
I think that the problem with dawncentanni's rental is that it is during the top season in Florida ... the prices are sky-high. I got the best price through an European reservation system Opodo (like Orbitz in the US). Good price (from Hertz) and insurances included.

Maybe... some Budget offices are franchised, others are corporate-owned. The corporate-owned locations would be most likely to allow it.

I often do one-ways from Baltimore to IAD or from EWR to Baltimore. Hertz and Budget do those with Budget usually the cheaper of the two. They do it with very high daily rates so you need to make the trip and dump the car or re-rent in the destination city. Stupid but true.
