Is there a good place to buy Asia Miles which can be used for CX F or J upgrades?

If so how are they priced compared to fares? How hard are they to use? Can they be confirmed in advance?

I don't think you can buy all the award miles from Asiamiles. You can only top off you accounts from it. However, you can purchase points from various hotel programs that transfer into Asiamiles. SPG let you purchase points at a rate of $35 for 1000 points which can be transfer into 1000 asiamiles. If you transfer 20000 points at once, SPG will add 5000 miles to make your 20000 points into 25000 miles. Total cost $700.;)

It should be noted that getting enough miles is one thing and whether OP can actually book the upgrade is another. The chance is a function of the flights (it is quite difficult to get award reservations on popular long haul flights), the travel dates, and OP's MPC or OW status. You may like to check on the availability before spending money to buy/transfer points.

US700 dollars for 25K miles is so not worth it. There is no way to calculate the value of 1 Asia Mile, but it sure far from 2.8 US cents for 1 mile.

Off topic, but the thing I like about Asia Miles, is that they don't give away miles as freely as other FFP. There are no 100% elite bonus miles for flying, double miles promotion are currently getting rarer and rarer, miles that will expire irregardless of activity, and I think they disabled the function to purchase Asia Miles on the website.

So if you don't travel frequently on CX, I don't see the point of buying Asia Miles. Just pay the last minute airport upgrade price. The previous site to buy asia miles buyasiamiles.points.com is disabled for a while already.

US700 dollars for 25K miles is so not worth it. There is no way to calculate the value of 1 Asia Mile, but it sure far from 28 US cents for 1 mile.

to be exact, I think it's actually 2.8 (instead of 28) US cents per 1 mile...

I have heard people can buy JL miles for about 1/4 of the fare for award F seats to NRT.

So I was trying to see if a similar program was available with CX, but I prefer to Upgrade and still earn miles. That is why I asked about buying Asia miles. You can not use AA miles to upgrade on CX and so my miles and PLT status do not help me.

Any other ideas?

If I fly JFK-HKG RT, I need 70000 asiamiles to upgrade from Y to J RT. From SPG, I have to pay $2100 for 70000 miles after transfer. A cheap RT Y ticket cost about $1000, so for a total $3100 for a RT JFK to HKG in J, IMHO it is decent deal.
According to my TA, the cheapest J class RT will cost about $5500 if there is a sale.
Again, all this will only work if there is upgrade availability, which can be almost nonexistent on this route.
