JetBlue TrueBlue - How does True Blue work with Connecting Flights?

I had a silly question that I wanted to ask instead of searching here on the forums or on the JetBlue site:

How do True Blue points work with connecting flights? I know there was discussion before on segments, but I can't find it so I want to know. If you book a flight, say JFK to LAS and its not a direct flight for which you would have earned 6 points or 12 based on the method you booked it, would you get the short haul points as well if its connecting say at Boston, MA, Washington D.C. or even Long Beach, CA?

That being said I was surprised to find recently that a connecting flight from JFK to LAS through LGB was less expensive than the same day direct flight from JFK to LGB that is using the same aircraft.

PS. I'm currently in the process of booking a sweet $119 each way transcon flight for the end of March early April, which I've never done before so I'll be sure to report on Jet Blue's progress and also provide my opinion on the service.

Your number of points will depend on the overall length of the entire trip. For instance, if I fly from BTV to IAD (connecting in JFK), that will get me 2 points (4 if I book online), since the distance is considered an overall short flight. If I fly from BTV to ORD, that would be a medium 4/8 point flight, and BTV to LGB would be a 6/12 point flight. You don't get points for each segment, if that's what you're asking.

You can use this link to calculate your potential trueBlue earnings:

understood... i guess if you wanted to get points per segment you'd have to book each connecting segment separately, but in that case it would be prohibitevly expensive.

wish I would have booked when Chicago was announced as a new destiantion... $36 bux JFK to ORD and $36 ORD to LGB... you can't beat that, ever!

I've flown OAK-LAS connecting via LGB a few times and the route earns the short-haul 2 points. I usually check the fares for booking the segments separately (so I could earn 4 points), but they've been more than the connecting flight on the days I flew.

Here's a follow up question for you guys:

What if... I book the cheaper flight out LAS to JFK connecting in either LGB or IAD and instead of actually going on that flight, go stand-by on another direct flight that is 10 minutes before the connecting flight, is that allowed?

To clarify what I'm saying here's my options (on the booking screen) if I were to book them now:

4:15pm LAS - JFK $119
10:40pm LAS - JFK $184 << I'd like to go stand-by
3:05pm LAS - LGB - SLC - JFK $204
7:35pm LAS - LGB - JFK $204
11:00pm LAS - IAD - JFK $119 << I would like to book

Looking at this and having gone on stand-by before only the immediate previous flight is allowed a no-charge stand-by admission. Which of these flights is immediate previous to the one I would book (the 11pm flight) the 10:40pm direct flight or the 7:35pm connecting flight?

and thats the million dollar question!

thanks,

Yes, unfortunately this is correct. More importantly, this means that it's possible to fly BTV to IAD once a month, every month, for the rest of your life and never, ever earn a TrueBlue award trip. :td:
