Hello,

I am booked on an award flight ADL-HKG on 12 March, and have just done a dummy booking to check load for F and J (I'm on J class award booking).

The booking sight is coming back full for J class, but then says N/A for F class.

From this I am concerned that there may be a substitution for a 2 class aircraft (regional configuration) on this flight, which would not be appreciated (this is my first ever flight on CX and I was looking forward to trying their J class seats).

My question is do they often substitute 2 class aircraft on this route, and secondly is there any reason this flight is already fully booked in J.

Thanks for your help.

(btw, still showing 333 in aircraft type, not 330)

Expertflyer still shows it as a 333 with F0 A0 J0 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9. And the Seat Map shows full/allocated rather than blocked in F.

CX does substitute regional A330s on Australian routes from time to time, but there's not much you can do about it. It's very annoying when it happens - I got MPC to refund some miles from a J-upgrade that got a regional plane from Sydney a few months back. It's the lack of AVOD on a day flight that's as bad as the seat.

There is a bug on the CX website when a cabin is completely sold out sometimes it shows N/A. It did on LHR before as well so not to worry too much. They normally don't schedule a 330 on the route unless somethings goes tech.

I mean even if you travel on QF, they can substitue it with a 763 or 743 on MEL/SYD-HKG! so there is no 100% way to get it.

But from my experience of travelling on this route more than 100 times I never had a sub like this before.

I used to be responsible for Australia too, and I shuttled between HKG/SYD almost weekly from 2001-2005. I still go back a few times a year. I can tell you that the chances of having a substituted aircraft to SYD, MEL, and ADL are infinitely low. Out of all the flights that I have taken (after NBC was on the route consistently), this has happened exactly once.

So, if I fly CX 105 HKG - ADL we're fairly sure to get a decent sleep in the Business cabin on a long range 330? This is what I am reading here, but if I can verify before I book my DCIR22 I'd really appreciate knowing. TIA!

Yep. ADL is safe due to MEL.

Thanks! I was hoping I'd not have to overnight in a regional cabin.

Yep. ADL is safe due to MEL.
