I'll be traveling to St. Thomas for a short trip this Monday and staying at Sapphire Beach. Any suggestions on things to see/do? Is the ferry trip to St. John's worth it? Any restaurant suggestions? thanks.

If it were my trip, I'd catch the seaplane to St. Croix for a day trip (or half-day; the seaplane ride is about 20 minutes IIRC and runs about once an hour) instead of St. John--- you already have beautiful beaches on St. Thomas (Don't miss Magan's Bay; a bit crowded sometimes but stunning and the cocktail bar there has some very nice selections at decent prices as far as islands go). Check to see if the cruise ships will be arriving in St. Croix anytime during your visit; they do arrive at St. Thomas, too, but I've found the Cruise Ship Day atmosphere on St. Croix much more carnival-like and "an event" than it is on St. Thomas-- on St. Thomas it's actually pretty good to stay away from the port around the cruise arrivals. For restaurants, I'd definitely recommend Banana Tree Grille; there is a bread appetizer that comes with this white-bean-spread kind of like hummus, with loads of garlic, that is just dreamy. |
