Hello!

I am planning a potential trip to Roatan Honduras this summer (mid/late July to early august). It will be for about 1 week. I would likely have up to 6 friends going with me. Any suggestions for accommodations and activities while we are there? Any advice you could throw my way would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That's a tough one. I visited Roatan while cruising so I am unable to recommend much apart from the excursion we selected. I will update with this information later, however would like to recommend that you create a thread in the Latin America/Central America forum as geographically Roatan Honduras is part of that grouping as opposed to the Caribbean.

You may have already made plans, but Roatan is know for its diving. I haven't made it there yet, but know people that have. If diving is your thing, check out www.scubaboard.com and search in the General Central America sub-forum.

I second Illini's recommendation. If you're a diver - my parents (both avid divers) claim Roatan is one of the best places on earth.

We are planning a dive trip to Roatan for July 2008  Our group will mostly be comprised of divers (juniors thru MSDT), but there are a few significant others who don't dive. Thus, we'd like to find a resort with both great diving and some activities accessible for non-divers.

We're looking at Anthony's Key Resort (http://www.anthonyskey.com/) and CocoView Resort (http://www.cocoviewresort.com/). Based on what I've read on Yahoo travel reviews, here are the tradeoffs:

AKR
• 3 single-tank boat dives per day
• dolphin experiences on site at a discount
• great food
• better rooms (?) - we'll definitely get ones with A/C

CocoView
• better shore diving - esp Prince Albert wreck
• 2 two-tank boat dives per day (2nd is a drop-off dive)
• free wireless internet (for FT! :D)
• significantly less expensive (by $200-500)

I'd appreciate any other suggestions or insights that people may have. I understand that West Bay has the nice beaches, but neither AKR nor CCV are particularly close. How are the beaches & pools at the resorts? How easy is it to get to West Bay (rental car or taxi?) Also, what are the shore entries like at AKR? CCV looks like it has a nice easy beach entry, but it's tough to tell about AKR. We're planning on doing our Rescue courses and our instructor would prefer not to have to be dragged across rocks ;)

TIA!!!

(as stated above, this technically belongs in the Latin/Central America forum, but I'm bumping this thread because the Caribbean forum seems to have more readers & divers :))
