American Express Membership Rewards - Bonus Point mall

I just realized that Amex offers 2X points on purchases made through SonyStyle. I did not know that when I made a purchase about 2 weeks ago. Was it necessary that I click through the bonus point mall link, or does the purchase just have to have been made with my Amex?

On second thought, it looks like a lot of the places I shop online are on this bonus point mall, I need to remember to check this more often!

In order for Company to award bonus points to you for participation in the Mall, you must follow certain guidelines to create a qualifying transaction.

You must:

Be logged into the Bonus Point Mall Website at www.BonusPointsMall.com;
Use only valid links within the Mall Website to enter a Merchant's website; and Complete your transaction within any session generated when clicking on a valid link.

Damn. Not the answer I was hoping for, especially since it was such an expensive purchase. The link from bonuspointmall.com to Sony Style didn't seem to have any special session id attached to it so I was hoping it would still go through.

Before you buy anything online, you should check that site. I got double points on apple, tumi, and barnes and noble.

I guess this replaced the gas, groceries, and usps. I never got a good answer if you this also replaced the rewards gold plus travel partner double points. Anyone know?

Bonus points for transactions with Membership Rewards transfer partner airlines and hotel chains has not changed. It is offered on the Rewards Plus Gold card only, and it is 2 points the first year, 1.5 points thereafter.

When American Express says "double points" they actually mean "one additional point per dollar", except during the holiday promotion when they offered two additional points per dollar. Virtually all of the merchants who participate in the Bonus Points Mall also participate in other online shopping portals and typically offer more than one mile per dollar. Can anyone explain why they would rather earn one bonus Membership Reward point than several Skymiles, OnePass or AAdvantage miles?

For example, Barnes and Noble offers three AAdvantage miles or Thank You points, four SkyMiles or five OnePass miles, but only one bonus Membership Reward point :td: .
