I'm wondering about access to LH lounges. Of course you can access business class lounge as frequent traveler or with a business class ticket; you can access senator lounge as senator traveler or with a first class ticket.
But what about other combinations, e.g.
A "non-Miles&More-member" with Y-class ticket and Silver or Gold status. Which lounge can he access?

with any StarGold status (and a valid boarding pass for that same day on a LH segment) you have access to LH Senator (and LH business and LH frequent flier lounges).

You can have a look at the Star Alliance web site :

With Star Gold and a same day * BP, you have access to any star gold lounge at the departing airport.

According to your posts and the given link above, a passenger has no access with star silver and a Y-class ticket?!

Star Silver gets squat for accessing Star Alliance lounges generally http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
but you do get some perqs on LH Miles and More with the Lufthansa Frequent Traveller Card
"Use of the worldwide Lufthansa Frequent Traveller and Business Class Lounges in combination with a Lufthansa flight."

Star Silver give you access (in Y) only in the lounges of your FF carrier.
Only Star Gold give you access to the other *A lounges (Business lounge or equivalent, not always to the top lounge).
But.. you can try, showing only (quickly) your card, not your Y boarding pass http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Last year I tried to access several lounges (Thai, SQ, ...) in Bangkok (with star silver status + Thai Y-class ticket). But no chance. So I had to wait an hour until LH lounge was open (8.00am). Maybe I have a better chance on airports without LH-lounge.

Nope. LH (and SK?) are the only carriers that gives lounge access to their own * Silver level (probably to make up for the fact that on any other airline, FQTV would be Gold).

As discussed earlier LH FTLs used to be able to use other carriers lounges, for UA and SK it was even an published benefit.

SK only allowe SK EuroBonus Silver to enter the domestic lounge at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

the (newest? 11/99) printed LH Lounge Directory (I did distribute several of them at the Catman-Do-III in NYC last weekend) for Stockholm (ARN) lists lounge access only for Senators, none for LH frequent-travellers.
Senators (with a same day departing boarding pass on LH or SK) have access to the following ARN lounges:
SAS Business Lounge (term 5, 1st floor)
SAS Scandinavian Lounge (term 5, 1st floor), I was there in early march 2001
SAS Stockholm Lounge (term 4, 1st floor)

Rudi you are right about the status now, but it used to be differently (look at http://members.home.net/deercroft/ftl.jpg, where BlondBomber posted the scan of the old FTL brochure). The last times it worked for us were 1999 with TG,SK and UA and April 2000
with AC (later in 04/00 they actually showed
us their internal AC letter dated somewhen
04/00, that starting that day FTL had no longer access to the MLL).

I fly LH not too often, but used Ansett Australia and UA during 2000 each with Discount Coach Tickets. In both cases the FTL Card granted admission, but only experienced lounge staff (usually not the front door receptionist)are aware of this policy which is called the ORIGINAL AGREEMENT between LH and UA and Ansett respectively. But: no guests allowed, only the member. This may still work, but you must be friendly and persistant at the same time. By the way, Ansett Lounges with plenty of food and wine and showers everywhere are the best Star Alliance Lounges worldwide. The problem: you must make it either to Australia or to one of the fery few international Ansett gateways.

I agree that Ansetts' Golden Wing lounges top my private lounge ranking (together with SK's Scandinavian lounges). and the Red Carpet Club in SNA (Orange County, CA).

I haven't been to any Ansett lounges, but I concur, the SK lounges (CPH) are really nice. The new RCC in the SFO International Terminal and the RCC in HNL are among my favorites as well, but I'm rather looking for some quiet space, not so much the food and drink selection.

I agree with Rudi, that SK and AN are the best I have seen, followed by AC, TG,SQ,LH and UA.
Have not seen ANA, Varig and NZ so far.

Sorry peter42 for this late answer: I tried and entered Ansett Australia Domestic Lounges in Sydney and Perth during Easter Break 2000. As I split my business between LH, BA, QF and AF, trips to remote destinations with the same carrier are not as frequent; I simply go for the fare/Quality/Points ratio. So it is a possibility that UA and AN became less generous. But also then (in April 2000) they just had the Star Alliance Gold Sticker on the door, but did admit all us Silvers without problems.

I recently used the NZ in LAX (outside the airport) and it was fine with showers and a sunny, refreshing area. Open early as the NZ from SYD arrives at 6am.

We just had no luck as FTLs in IAD,MIA and DEN on our trip. Some stuff even claimed FTL was never allowed in ...
