I currently have a *A award with the outbound JFK-BKK-HAN on TG, but may need to change the date and only availability seems to be via OZ JFK-ICN. Can't find much info. What's seat, service, and food like in business on this route? TIA.

Service and meal: good
Seat: bad. It's old seat.
Many people in this forum complaint about OZ's out dated C class hardware. Especially JFK-ICN is overnight one - it is worse.

OZ 747s have really old C class seats. It is the same as UA C seats prior to the current ones. UA updated them years ago but OZ still uses those from late 80s/early 90s. I really hope OZ would upgrade them soon. :(

However, as others have pointed out in this forum, the service is also from the 80s and 90s. In other words, you will get great customer service with attention to detail from the time before many benefits were "enhanced" away.

Thanks to all for the info. Can anyone point me to pictures of the seat or more detailed description of pitch, recline, etc.? I can't seem to find anything on the OZ site. TIA again.

Pitch is 48", recline not so good. I guess it compares to LH Old C seating. IFE like UA/LH old C, but no power ports. Service is excellent, though, comparable to SQ, IMO, without getting in the way.

Avoid the 747 J class seat at all cost !
(The OZ service however is in line with SQ or CX though, but that doesn't help if you can't sleep in the seat and there is no decent IFE system)

I flew this sector in F last month. If you have the ability to make it into an F award I would strongly suggest you do so. The flight is over 14 hours and it's completely in the dark. So sleep would be very good if you can get some.
The flight leaves at 12.30am and arrives into ICN at 5am so sleep will help overcome jetlag.
The seat is old, but the inflight service beats SQ hands down.

I flew ICN-JFK-ICN on OZ as recent as last Nov. Although, I have no trouble sleeping on it, seats needs urgent improvement. Asiana is running aircraft cabin interior history museum.
If your final destination is not ICN, you can seek for other alternative routing. Via NRT with NH. or via HKG with UA.
I currently have a *A award with the outbound JFK-BKK-HAN on TG, but may need to change the date and only availability seems to be via OZ JFK-ICN. Can't find much info. What's seat, service, and food like in business on this route? TIA.

you either can live with the seat or you can't. I can. I usually can get 7+ hours sleep.
I prefer row 11- emerg exit row. leg room is not then an issue. & is front of the bus- no-one to recline into your space, and you can put your feet on the bulkhead.

But the onboard service was as excellent as any Pax can wish. As always with OZ.^

Looking at this trip again for November. OZ 221 JFK-ICN now seems to alternate between 747 and 777. OZ site indicates (some/all?) of the 777s have fully reclining seats. Has anyone flown the 777 with these seats? TIA.
Edit: Ok, I read a few of the relevant threads. So now the 777s between JFK-ICN are updated with new seats. Are some or all of the 747s also updated on this route?
From OZ site:
Business class has a wider gap between seats, exceeding 50 inches. Full automatic, reclining seats are installed in our B777 aircraft for added convenience and composure during the long-distance travel.... (Please note that during the upgrade process, not all flights will have the upgraded business class cabins. Your understanding is much appreciated)

OZ will use three class 777.
I guess they are converting old equipment or getting new 777 delivered on JFK-ICN route.
There are one 747 that's been converted, and it features slanted lieflats.
I believe by November, all JFK-ICN flights will feature new F and C.
At least I hope so because I booked my mom on OZ F;)
