Other Car Rental Programs/Partners (ie. Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt) - Alamo: Are their SUVs AWD?
I rented an Equinox at SMF for the weekend. I plan on taking it to the mountains. I'm assuming they are renting out AWD Equinox's, not the FWD only version. Is this assumption safe?
I've never rented from Alamo before (or National), but EVERY SUV I've rented from Advantage, Thrifty, Budget, Hertz, and Enterprise have all been AWD or 4x4.

I have never rented a Chevy Equinox but I have rented the GMC Envoy XL from Alamo and sadly it was the 2WD model. After pointing this out to the manager, she upgraded me to the Yukon Denali which was the only 4WD drive vehicle on the lot.
YMMV

rented SUVs from Alamo in Colorado, New Mexico and California.
when I called the national reservation number I was told that they would not guarantee a 4WD, that I could put a request in, but that it would be up to availability whether I would get one or not.
My best guess is that if you rent in a location with mountains, you will most likely get a 4WD. Similarly, some SUVs tend to all come in 4 while others mostly in 2WD. Remember trying to rent in Albuquerque; the Envoys and Equinoxes were all 2WD (intermediates), while the Trailblazers came in 4WD...
I would call the local rental office and ask them.
