Starwood Preferred Guest - Status Match Timing

I was told that there are better times of the year than other to transfer status from one hotel to another. Does anyone know if this is true for SPG? I am Diamond at Hilton, but my current project has me staying at a Starwood.

It's been stated before that SPG will provide a status match for at least a year. Given that status ends Feb. 28/9, one could infer that March 1 would be the ideal time to request a match. YMMV.

In my case, it seems to be now. I got a HH Gold match to SPG Gold yesterday. No problem whatsoever.

But did you receive SPG Gold thru 2/08 or 2/09?

My gold status at SPG is about to expire, but I did just recently achieve gold status at Hilton. Maintaining my gold status at SPG sure would be nice for some up coming award stays later this year.

I have the same questions as Lefty. Any thoughts out there on when to transfer to stretch status to '09?

I called 888-625-4990. It was very easy. I didn't even have to fax them my card. Just had to give them my HH #.

I don't know the expiration date and I don't see it online. In fact, I don't even see evidence of being Gold yet. How can I tell? It tells me I need 25 more stays until Plat. Would it say 10 stays until Gold if I was Silver?

I had a thought -> try the Replace Card option where it says they will mail you a new card and you can print a temp card (which would have the expiry date). But no luck, the temp card never appears.

There is no Silver, but I think I know what you mean.

If you are preferred plus, it will tell you how many stays you need to make Gold, once you are Gold, it will tell you how many stays to reach Platinum, etc...

You're right. I found the "trick". Goto Combine Accounts and it will tell you what you are. SPG site is definitely not as informative on account info as HH's.

I'm sure you're thinking "why doesn't Mayor just call to get the expiry date?" I would, but I thought it was hard to get HH G -> SPG G. If it's fairly routine I find out for you all. If this may have been an exception, I don't want to tip off another CSR and have it stripped.
