Any suggestions for a night of fine dining ?
Thanks.

You could ask that question on the Singapore Forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=510) and I'm sure you will get plenty of contemporary advice...

Had a good feed in Singapore a year ago at the Chilli Crab FT DO, but perhaps Gelang not the best 'fine dining area'.

I've done something like that at one of the "CHIJMES" restaurants (4 Years ago) but, while the dining was 'white linin' fine and the evening was quite the romantic one, 'twas rather exe ... I thought for the price Raffles may have been a better and more interesting option.Oh, where did you say you had dinner? Raffles? ... hmmm nice ...

Oh, where did you say you had dinner? Chimjes... say what  ? ...:p

The best dining in SIN isn't on white tablecloths - it's in places like Hawker Centres and Geylang Rd.

If you really want fine dinning and like CHINESE food (I mean REAL chinese food, none of this (edited) Australian, Sydnye Golden Century (edited)) then try out the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton Chinese restaurant.

The food is devine (unline ANYTHING in Aust) and the setting and atmosphere is excellent (and u can avoid the hawker centre mere mortals like us there!):D

Hai Tian Lou @ Pan Pacific offers good chinese food with a good view.
Equinox @ Stamford Plaza (Formerly Westin) serves good western food again with a good view.

Blu at the top of the Shangri-La. Stupidly expensive but worth the splurge for a big occasion.

Been there, done that, and what an experience that I cannot afford every time, unfortunately.

Difficult to find a bad place for dinner in beautiful SIN.

Have fun and romance!

I was there twice in the last 3 months. I need to tell ya I know the places are inexpensive and probably have good food.

HOWEVER...I did see a rat run across those alleys into one of th:D e buildings that serves food... that was unsettling...and I saw food preperation done almost on the sidewalk standing over a bowl while socializing with customers...

I'll stick to the Hawker Food at Harbor and Raffle's Shopping Malls. Just not going to chance it. I didn't eat on Geylang..I did stay there a few nights while slumming it after the Valley Wing.

I do like contrasts...when traveling.

Tend to agree/// there is a contrast in Valley Wing, Shangri-la and Geylang. Only a trust boy would know for sure though!:D :D :D .

So who on FT has been saying Singapore is sterile and boring ;)

Had an outstanding meal (ambience, service, food, decor, the whole bit) at Taste/Paradise, 48/49 Mosque Street in Chinatown, last August. This ain't just a visitor speaking: we were taken by two locals who had been there before more than once. If it's still open and under the same management it has my recommendation. (It's been six months, these things can change, but since I'll be back in late May I hope they haven't.)

And after all the Asian food, if you get a hankering for a good piece of cow flesh, try the Long Bar Steakhouse at The Raffles Hotel.

Also, the Courtyard at The Raffles is also good (and expensive) if you like some outdoor dining with dancing to a live band on most nights.
