MilesBuzz! - Who offers domestic rewards for least mileage
including promotions
especially interested in los angeles to boston this august.
I also see stuff like this more and more often:
Fare shown does not include passenger Facility Charges of up to $18 roundtrip, September 11th Security Fees of up to $10 roundtrip and U.S. segment taxes of up to $3 per flown segment.
Is there a way to avoid this. Which airline charges least garbage of this form.

Check out NWA which is offering a 15K round-trip award to the East Coast. I think the promo expires at the end of June. Good Luck!
If it need not be actual "mileage", SWA might be a good deal. Four roundtrips booked online will earn you a free roundtrip anywhere they fly. There are few restrictions on award seats. They don't fly to BOS, but to Providence, RI. Also, you'll have to transfer at least once if flying from LAX.

AAdvantage Card's last quarterly mailer had a 20K award to Cabo. The Misses and I will be taking full aadvantage of this offer during a September visit!

Delta has a 30K award to Hawaii. I believe it is the lowest award to Hawaii out there.

Most of what you list are taxes and other charges that are imposed by governments and airports, and cannot be avoided by choosing one airline or another.

This is true. Another thing to note is that on an award ticket, only the new Security Fee applies, $2.50 for each segment, up to 2 segments each way. So, if you fly non-stop, it's $5 round trip, and if you make connections, it's $10 round trip. That's the only tax or fee you'll have to pay on any US airline when redeeming an award ticket (aside from any possible optional service fees, such as expidite or paper ticket fees).

Air Canada has a short haul award for 15K; typically good between adjacent provinces (ie Ontario and Quebec) and/or provinces adjacent to US regions (ie-British Columbia and Pacific Northwest)
I took that quote from the northwest 15000 miles for award promotion (for which I still did not figure out if it's the travel or the reservation that needs to be made by june 30th)
I think that a free award ticket should not have any fees (I am sure this has been discussed elsewhere); more and more fees are being charged on award tickets.

I agree. But, this is a government problem, not an airline problem. Write your Congressman.

Yeah, you have to pay that no matter what. It is international, but when I booked an award ticket EWR-SCL (connect in PTY) the total fees and taxes came to over $70. That is amazing, I booked a similar route 3 years ago and I don't think I had to pay any tax/fees at all.

Quinella is right. Unhappily had to pay big fees for award tickets to Cabo.
Slow is also right about NWA. The 15K mile award to the East Coast is totally ambiguous.
No clear definition if tickets needed to be purchased before June 30th or if travel had to be completed by that date.
GREAT DEAL, but poor clarity.

The best thing is you can even have one free stopover on these awards which can't even be done if you purchased a revenue J ticket!! A real advantage.
