American Express Membership Rewards - 2500 points for adding 2nd person to spg card

Hope this is not covered elsewhere, but I just activated my first SPG card and was offered 2500 points to add another person, so of course I added my wife for a total of 12500 points just for signing up..Its a good start towards that 20K transfer to AA I could use.:) I wonder now if I could have asked for 5K to sign my wife on and maybe gotten it?

This has been covered before. You can also add another to your HH Amex for 5,000 HH points. Did both a couple of months ago.

Be happy with the 2500 points .... it's a great deal for just adding a card to your current account!

I don't think you could get any more than the 2500.

But you could "double up" (for another 12,500 points) by signing your wife up for a new AmEx card and get a second card for yourself on her account.

Of course, she will need her own Starwood account. Just be sure it is the same adress as yours. Then, with your Starwood Preferred Guest status you gained as a result of getting the AmEx cards, when you are ready to use your points you can call and "combine points" to get a reward!

Did you get solicited for the 2,500 SPG points offer directly, or how did you know about it? I called SPG (never got solicited in any way), and they said that the 2,500 promo wasn't going on, they had never heard of it, etc etc. Can I just add another authorized user and expect to see 2,500 points credit? That's contrary to what the CSRs say, unfortunately.

Yes - the bonus posted to my account today after I added my wife about 10 days ago (haven't got the card yet though). No idea about limits though
