American Express Membership Rewards - Reduced Fee Plats?

I've been doing some searching on reduced fee plats and wanted some feedback from other FTers if I have this right.
I've got about $20K I'd like to throw into a money market or similar easy to get to taxable investment vehicle. If I'm going to move some money around I'd like to see if I can also get a fee waived or reduced fee plat out of the deal.
My searching came up with the following:
Amiprise: Really under 50K won't get you much more from what I can see. A free Gold Card and from I can see fees that will dig into my investments.
Fidelity: Might get a Plat if the program is still there. The thread on it appeared to end with someone trying, but no results were posted. Should be able to open the accounts, but some of the money market funds might have 25K mins.
Anything else I miss?
Thanks!

you cant get a free cent.
$500K ameriprise gets you at least 2, if not 4 Plats ($570 value)
with fidelity gone, the only other thing is the business plat for $300 (although additional cards end up being more expensive)
I wonder if they'd reduce my fee for a year on the grounds that nowhere did it say that you had to be 21 (which I won't be until 2008) for lounge access. :(
I doubt it, though.

You could still get a Fidelity AMEX Platinum as of Jan 1st despite the fact that the website said that you could not get one.
The minimum requirement is $5k in your account. There may be other requirements, but that is all that is provided. You can definitely open an account for $5k with Fidelity.

I also doubt that you will be refused lounge access on a regular basis.
Perhaps an isolated incident here and there.
Just show your boarding pass and present your Plat card and in all likelihood you'll be admited.
You need not waive your passport around with your thumb pointed on your date of birth.
Just dress not like a total slob and be personable and business like to the gate keeper.
Naturally once inside, I am sure that you will just say no to all drugs including the drug Alcohol.
I did not want my post to contribute to the moral demise of America's youth.
But a Student needs a quiet place to study and phone Mom.
When you use the AX PLAT card at a SKYTEAM lounge, that Airline gets something of value from American Express.
You should be warmly welcomed.
So don't leave home without it.

Maybe it's an IAH thing. I tried both the North and South PC's last time and was asked both times to show ID after presenting my card & boarding pass. :td: I guess I could always just ask someone to pretend that I'm their son or whatever. :[

How do you get the Amex Platinum by having a Fidelity account? Are the Plat card fees waived?

fidelity used to, and perhaps still has, a plat for $320 i believe it was. only difference from regular plat was it had a limit based on the current amount in one of your accounts.

I usually fly in jeans & a t-shirt (mind you, I don't look like a bum). I'm not about to wear a suit whenever I fly just for PC access while I'm underage. It's not that big of a deal to me, since I'm usually off one plane and right onto another with maybe 10 minutes or so in between, if that.

khakis and a non tshirt would probably take care of your problem

That is correct. My AMEX Platinum is a deferred debit card for my Fidelity account. Its $320 per year and $1.50 per cash withdrawal which comes immediately from my Fidelity account. Purchases are debited once per month.

I'm quite interested in this... how? I called up Fidelity and the CSR sounded like she was a new hire and had no idea what I was talking about. I couldn't reference the website since it said it was no longer available.
Thanks in advance for the info. Would walking into a Fidelity center (there's a local one here) and talking to someone there - perhaps a manager - help?

Not at all. The minimum age for membership to or unaccompanied entry into a Continental Presidents Club is 21. There are no exceptions.
