Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Timing of honeymoon to Fiji and New Zealand

I'm trying to plan my honeymoon, and I thought I'd ask for some advice here. I'm getting married in August, and my fiancee and I are planning a trip that has stops in both Fiji and New Zealand. The question, however, is when.

We've been planning a trip in late August (first with 5 nights in Fiji, then 3 more in Auckland). The thinking was that (according to a guidebook that my fiancee read) any later starts to get into rainy season in Fiji, and we'll just put up with dealing with winter in New Zealand.

However, is this foolish of us? Should we try to push it out into the September, October, or later, timeframes?

Thanks for any advice!

Kiwi Flyer will most likely offer the best advice, and although it is only a short flight from Fiji to Auckland you might want to consider whether you should spend more time in a Fiji resort and give NZ a miss until your next trip.

The reason I say this is that 3 days in Auckland doesn't give you much time to see some of the great sights that NZ has on offer, even a tour to the thermal area south of Auckland takes a full day and you don't want to spend your honeymoon driving or in a tour bus.

really look into spending the honeymoon in Fiji, do NZ another time (and then DO it right, it will be worth it)
re: rain in FIJI... don't stress it too much, it isn't quite the 'rainy season' that one gets in say India, you won't have 24/7 pouring rain for 4 months... it will just be 'wetter' than the 'dry' season...but for the years I lived in Fiji, I was still hard pressed to really delineate the rainy and dry seasons per se...

Have fun, Bula Vinaka!

A bit OT, but I am trying to plan a vacation with the Mrs. and Pupsters to Fiji for July. We have been to Fiji in February when the weather was fantastic (rain now and then, then warm and sunny again). I'd even say that the weather was much too hot sometimes.

I read a couple of trip reviews on TripAdvisor.com and found one that complained on how cold it was in July, so much so that the hotel pool (Sheraton Villas, Denarau) was unusable.

Does it really get that cold in Fiji in July? Should we look for somewhere north of the equator for July?

Thanks,

Onedog

Well this march was wet in the west-4 weeks of continuous rain. However Easter was back to normal with Denarau temps 30C during the day dropping to 27C at night .However the humidity basically 100% so felt a lot warmer.
We have been to Fiji many times in July and August basically because it was cooler. The average temps for Nadi in July and August are min-64F,max-83F.That should not make pools unusable but maybe 1 or 2 days when you would prefer to do something else.
