American Express Membership Rewards - Relaunch of German Centurion in 2008 the earliest

I spoke to the Centurion Card Service in Germany. The said a relaunch would definetly not come in 2007 - 2008 the earliest!

:-(

I suppose the they don't have an incentive to relaunch as members don't cancel the card...

remember theyll raise the fee, and might not increase benefits :D

Ahh but we need to give them the slack, as it will take them that long to train their staff on the new benefits.

Thanks,
Richard

first it was 2006, than 2007, in january 2007 they said 2008.
next year they say 2009....

as i am not paying for my centurion i dont care, but if i had to pay 1000euro for nothing myself...

wouldn't 2 for 1 dining make up 1000 euros pretty darn quickly?

as i am almost always travelling and i cant use half of the german benefits...

for example the purchase protection in germany covers only things bought in german shops...

us centurion is much better.

centurion has to offer a worldwide program like UA UGS or LH HON, where the benefits for every card holder are similar.

and add some localized offers for the different country cards owner...

Agree. A standard set of benefits spiced up with some local content would be great. But them Amex will be saying that this is exactly what they have currently. There are some things in common and others are different.
However, I usually have no problem accessing other countries benefits with my Australian Card.
BTW, the price of the relauched card in Australia is EUR 2700. So hopefully the German re-launch will take a while.

Which benefits do you find useful from other countries?

Which benefits do you find useful from other countries?

1.) world wide purchase protection.

the german card only covers if you buy something in a german shop .

2.) airline status

LH won't even discuss HON with Amex. Not even SA Gold is realistic.

But IMO it's not too hard for Amex -- personally I don't care too much about airline/hotel status. Yes, I know that this forum is about upgrades ;) And yes, upgrades are nice. But most of my flying is for private reasons and then I do book the class I'd like to have. Same with hotels: when I go on vacation with my wife, I want to book the hotel and room I'd like to book and not e.g. some SPG property and hope for a suite upgrade. And even with the existing memberships (SPG Gold, Sixt, HHonors) -- you have to fill out some form, enlist and handle the membership separately. IMO just the Amex card should be enough.

But what I really want is an awesome concierge service which really gets me into great restaurants and clubs by the last minute -- worldwide! And if I want a rare item like some rare watch or the latest "IT-bag" (just as an example ;) ), hunts it down for me. At list price.

So far I can't really complain about the club or restaurant reservations. I managed to call them twice at 8:30pm on friday and they got me on the guestlist for the same night. They weren't too happy in the beginning but saw it as a challenge and it worked. Seriously, if that would work worldwide 24/7 it would be such a timesaver, that I happily pay the fee for it. The upgrades come in handy of course, same as the insurances and all that.

would be great.

a good concierge. the old platinum service back in 2000 brought me in every club or good restaurant . now 7 years later i always think that the centurion concierge service is almost useless.

amex should link at least the concierge services together, for exasmple that the german service can acess restaurant tips of the us centuirion service etc.

Airline status would be nice, although I have plenty of that anyway ...
Since the loss of SPG Plat the only remaining benefit for me is the MO free night. I recently stayed at the Oriental in BKK on a 2 for 1 weekend and got upgraded to the Noel Coward suite in the Authors Wing. :) Best $510 per night ever spent !

I am not sure what I would do if the relaunch only involved a fee hike without significant benefits?

WOW  That sounds like a serious claim. I never got beyond EUR 500 for a delayed luggage claim.

Benefits I used which are technically the ones of other countries are: Onboard credit for cruise lines which are not part of the Australian card, access to clubs, 241 deals with airlines which Australia doesn't have (QF). And I am currently trying to get the free LXR night from the US.

I usually try to log into the Centurion sites of other countries. Japan and Germany work for me. I don't get into the US and I don't know the URLs of other countries or the international cards.

But I have to agree, the concierge service has not impressed me at all. Even the travel is mediocre. But I am also not a concierge type of person.

in my case i had to pay some serious medical bills. amex paid everything. and all tickets and hotels and rental cars etc. etc. which were boooked prepaid .

If you want to look at other countries Cents., log into the USA Cent page. Then, click on the "homepage" links from this site (http://www.geocities.jp/ctwxg845/comparison.html). They should open.

bhd87,

Nice information!
Sorry OT:

But I think that non-US Cent members are not able to log-in to US Centurion website.
Japan,Australia,Germany,Italy and Mexico Cent members are able to log-in to JP,AU,DE,IT and Mexixo Cent website

Obviously,Japanese Cent members are not able to log-in to the US Cent website.
Maybe.........
because Japan,Australia,Germany,Italy and Mexico Centurion website are http://www.150...........
US Cent website address is http://www.124......................
So we should have our ID/PIN recognized to www.124 to do log-in to the US Cent website.

I can tell everyone how to log-in if you want.:)

thanks,
masahiro
