LatinPass/GlobalPass - US Airways' future with LatinPass?View Full Version : US Airways' future with LatinPass? Flying Dutchman May 23, 00, 7:50 pm http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum109/HTML/000781.html Question of the day: Is LatinPass about to lose yet another partner? SAPMAN May 23, 00, 8:36 pm perhaps this will stall out long enough - 2 years and we can use our LP miles on US Air. Anyway, congrats on getting your bonus posted. Tango May 23, 00, 10:33 pm If UA is allowed to buy out US (a big if), it will be a long time before this goes through. You can always use KLM, or transfer some of your miles into the Distancia program and redeem miles on American Airline flights. National Airlines is also a good bet--they are growing and are looking at a number of new city's to add to their route system. Viajero Joven May 24, 00, 10:01 am I'd watch US Air if Dividend Miles merges with Mileage Plus-- I was hoping to transfer miles into COPA, but LatinPass told me that since COPA is now under OnePass, and since Continental isn't part of LP, that OnePass is not an option for transfering miles. They might say the same about Mileage Plus- that United isn't a LatinPass partner. Separately, does anyone know how to get a Flying Dutchman account for U.S. residents? I understand that all US, Canadian, and Mexican residents must sign up for Northwest Wroldperks, which doesn't participate in LatinPass. Any ideas short of using a non-North American address? BSL May 24, 00, 11:07 am Well here is one way to look at UA/US: it is likely there is an agreement between LP and US that will continue, (ie. the recent AC developments with DL) Now on the downside there could be a "change of control" provision in the agreement that allows parties to exit if they are bought or sold. Also, when you look at the partners of LP that you can transfer your miles to the following stick out: Aeropostal: DL partner ACES: CO partner TACA: AA partner Finally, Hilton too. So there are additionial ways of using your LP miles outside of the current partners (TW, KL, US, NAT) and members. BSL rhinochaser May 24, 00, 4:30 pm I posted this question on another thread, but couldn't one transfer points from their LP account to the US Airways now, so that if and when UAL completes its acquisition, the LP miles will have been converted into US Airways miles, and then into UAL miles? NickB May 24, 00, 4:34 pm While there are plenty of European residents former members of WP irate at having been forced to join FD, it is pretty unusual for a North American resident to want to join FD instead. I am not clear why you want to do that on account of Latinpass, though. KL is a partner, not a member of Latinpass. Thus, if you want to join FD simply to transfer bonus miles from the LP promotion, that will not work. If you simply want to use your LP miles on KL, you do not need to be an FD member. Whatever your reasons are, I cannot see any way round the residence requirement. Flying Dutchman May 24, 00, 10:05 pm NickB is 100% correct. LatinPass miles can be transferred to the frequent flyer programs of member airlines, but not the frequent flyer programs of partner airlines. The only way to move miles to any other program is via HHonors, and you lose quite a bit of mileage in the process. (Take a look at the Reward Exchange information at http://www.hiltonhhonors.com ) Anyway, the best thing to do with LatinPass miles is probably just to leave them in LatinPass. Most of the world is covered with their member and partner airlines, and even if US Airways leaves there will still be TWA and National. (A side note: Flying Dutchman is a pretty crappy program. You really aren't missing much by having your miles in LatinPass instead.) |
