American Express Membership Rewards - Any news on the 'revamped' Centurion card?

Spoke with Centurion customer services last week (UK) and they said there were no immediate plans to launch any changes.

I also asked about the total lack of promotions, knowing that every other kind of AmEx card seems to have double and triple points etc. Again, there are no current Centurion promotions and no plans for the near future.
I have to admit that I don't have time to read most of the mail they send me but I can't recall any substantial promotions over the last 5-6 years.

Seeing the benefits of this card overall diluted, and I'm not a person who needs the status feeling of flashing a black card, is it time to ditch it once and for all?

Proir to cancelling my card last week, I posed the same questions. Was told that no major changes would be implemented within the next 12 months, hence my decision to get on with getting rid of the card.

what the heck? so theyve stopped the "relaunch" they kept going on about? :D

i presume that means no fee increase, nice for you UKers ^

Ahh but then when have we ever known AmEx staff to know anything right?

If I phoned and asked them what day of the week it was, they would struggle.

Why are Centurion cardholders so reluctant to cancel? In my experience "complaining" to a mass marketer accomplishes little. Management only responds to measureable declines in number of cardholders, fee revenue, charge volume, etc. If the product no longer provides good value for money, cancel and explain the reason. But whining that it's "not as good as last year" is irrelevant.

if you cancel i think you should cancel with the executive offices. that will make a bigger impact than the simple CSR. your talking to people who work in the same building, and in some cases report to people like alfred kelly and kenneth chenault, that says something.

i was intersted in said "relaunch" i called up Cent and asked and they are unaware of anything new. the only new benefit was the priority pass last year according to them. i believe thats been around longer, but whatever, they said no relaunch is known.

My renewal comes up in February and it appears obvious the time to cancel is now. They simply have degraded the card in every way and refuse to make any changes. I simply can no longer justify having this very expensive, worthless piece of soda can any longer.

Do you all feel the new Chairman card will be the impetus for Centurion to do something???

It’s amazing that people are still banging on about the Re-Launch. Back in 2004 they we're scaling back the Cent Invites due to the relaunch.....2004!!! Basically 2003/2004 they were handing out Cent Cards like confetti to all types of 'ilk, this was the major reason for the scale back / non re-launch.

I reckon we won't see a re-launch 'per-say' until Q2 '08. From what I’ve heard AMEX will host a whole bunch of changes throughout the worldwide corporation.

the new chairman has Leaders Club. wow.

it also has something called entre which is supposed to make up for all the things plat/cent has, but i cant imagine it will come close to FHR/etc. (considering they think LC is competitive to FHR) maybe it will be different enough to attract different customers though, like TYN and VIPdesk PA.

That would be naïve.

chairman will be a little bit better than ultima, with entre and leaders club, but its still not going to compare to centurion. who knows though, for those of you who dont think centurion is worth it, maybe chairman card is the card for you..

im still interested in hearing about if they do a $5K card, but im not expecting much.
