Frontier Airlines EarlyReturns - Dayton all mainline as of May 4th?

I was looking through the schedule to see when the DEN<->DAY RJ transitions from Horizon to Republic, and I was surprised...
...apparently that route goes all mainline as of May 5th. ^
Of course, the twice daily DAY flights stayed but the flight times changed, and so in May they won't make any sense with my schedule... :td: (I _like_ missing rushhour on both ends with a 10-11AM departure from PHX and a 730PM arrival into DAY; and then the 8PM DAY daparture back into PHX before midnight is just perfect...)
May is still a good bit away... Hopefully that will change before I have to start booking someone else (with better timed flights...)

...every time I've been on those Horizon RJs, they've filled them or gotten very close. How much the avg pax has paid for that 3 hour RJ, I dunno...
The new flight times are suspiciously close to the new UA CRJ7 times:
UA:
United 5360 Operated by United Express/ Go Jet
Depart: DEN 10:16 AM
Arrive: DAY 02:56 PM
2h 40m
Bombardier CRJ-700
F9:
Frontier Airlines 191
Depart: 10:30 AM Denver , CO, US (DEN)
Arrive: 03:10 PM Dayton , OH, US (DAY)
Airbus Jet
UA:
United 5360 Operated by United Express/ Go Jet
Depart: DAY 03:30 PM
Arrive: DEN 04:30 PM
3h 0m
Bombardier CRJ-700
F9:
Frontier Airlines 198
Depart: 03:50 PM Dayton , OH, US (DAY)
Arrive: 04:44 PM Denver , CO, US (DEN)
Airbus Jet
I'm not sure what either carrier is thinking with those times; Dayton isn't a big tourist destination (there is really only one reason to go to Dayton...). Arriving when the business day is just about done (3PM+rentalcar+etc) makes little sense given that it means you have to be at your origin departure airport for those "early AM" or "rushhour" flights (oy), assuming you connect...
...which is a good assumption if you are going into Dayton since it ain't a tourist destination, and has few nonstops...

I live in Dayton, and kind of surprise UA is coming into the Denver non-stop route. You're right, we're definately not a tourist town. I've been wondering once UA begins service if there will be a fare decrease? I fly to DEN several times a year and go with the cheapest airline which is never Frontier. It will be nice if fares to DEN do drop. Will be interesting to see how it all turns out. I think UA begins their competition with Frontier in May.

I suspect there will be a fire sale on DEN<->DAY once both carriers start it up... either that for both airlines offering FF promos.
That route will go from 184 (=70+114) nonstop seats roundtrip each day to 292to298 seats ((64to70)+114+114) nonstop seats roundtrip each day....

But then again, the only cities Frontier serves in OH are DAY and CAK. Is this their version of the old wal-mart like strategy of avoiding the big cities of CMH, CLE and CVG? Didn't DAY have some UA service many, many years ago?

Currently, Frontier's evening flight departs at 7:55 pm, but when United starts it's 3:35 pm sevice to DEN, Frontier is changing to depart at 3:50 pm. Interesting how Frontier is trying to compete so direclty. I like the 7:55 pm flight.

Well, your analysis would be great IF DEN weren't a hub for both airlines. So, yes, the number of the seats has gone up into DAY. However, passengers can originate in SEA, PDX, SMF, SFO, OAK, LAX, BUR, ONT and the many other cities west of DEN that F9 and/or UA flies to.
