MilesBuzz! - Dent scam by Dollar Rental after rental

I posted this in the Dollar rental forum. However, since it appears that Dollar (and Alamo) is doing such scams on a regular basis, the flyertalk community should be alerted about their practice. Also we are seeking advice on how to fend them off. The Buzz would be the better forum. If not so, I apologize in advance and would be happy to stick to the posting in Dollar forum. Thanks.

Relatives of mine rented a car from Dollar about two weeks ago. Other than that they had to wait for more than a hour for a car to become available, the rental was uneventful. However, yesterday, they received a phone call from Dollar saying that there was a dent on the car and a bill would be sent to them. First of all, they didn't cause the dent. Secondly, when they returned the car, they and a Dolalr agent both inspected the car and found no problem. Now two weeks later, Dollar is trying to scam them. Have this happened to anyone else? I have heard similar stories about Dollar and Aloma in the past. Please share your experience and perhaps suggest best course of action. They didn't purchase the LDW coverage. Thanks very much in advance.

Any chance this happened in FLL or MIA?

I would not be worried. They should send the original of repair invoice back, stating that they not agree. If and when the car rental company charge the credit card, ask the credit card company to credit the amount.

There is NO way this belongs in this forum

Unfortunately I agree this does not belong in "Miles"Buzz. While FT discourages cross-posting, your major concern about the events motivates me to move this to the "Airline, Hotel, Car Rental" forum.
