I posted this in the Dollar rental forum. However, since it appears that Dollar (and Alamo) is doing such scams on a regular basis, the flyertalk community should be alerted about their practice. Also we are seeking advice on how to fend them off. The Buzz would be the better forum. If not so, I apologize in advance and would be happy to stick to the posting in Dollar forum. Thanks.

Relatives of mine rented a car from Dollar about two weeks ago. Other than that they had to wait for more than a hour for a car to become available, the rental was uneventful. However, yesterday, they received a phone call from Dollar saying that there was a dent on the car and a bill would be sent to them. First of all, they didn't cause the dent. Secondly, when they returned the car, they and a Dolalr agent both inspected the car and found no problem. Now two weeks later, Dollar is trying to scam them. Have this happened to anyone else? I have heard similar stories about Dollar and Aloma in the past. Please share your experience and perhaps suggest best course of action. They didn't purchase the LDW coverage. Thanks very much in advance.
