American Express Membership Rewards - Transferring Miles to Someone Else’s OnePass Account

I thought his was going to be easy…

Got this bright idea to transfer my AMEX miles to my brother in laws Platinum OnePass account. Then he was going to book some reward travel for me.

Called AMEX last week and asked two reps can I transfer the miles and the answer both times was “sure”.

Tried to transfer the miles last night and found out that it wasn’t that easy.

Gave them his OnePass rewards account number and found out that he had already linked his own personal AMEX to the OnePass account.

Then I find out that I can only transfer miles to one of my authorized card holders.

So the question is (and forgive me for not coming to the board before I got this far) if he removes the linkage of his OnePass number from his personal account, and I add him as a card holder to my account, can the miles transfer over?

Thanks to all…

Try this. Do everything online at membershiprewards.com, do not speak to anyone at American Express or Continental...

1. Brother-in-law logs into his Membership Rewards account, delinks OnePass from his American Express account. This is reversible, no risk.

2. You login to your Membership Rewards account and attempt to link brother-in-law's OnePass number to your account. In principle he needs to be a supplementary card holder on your account, but in practice many people find that the system will create the link if the name matches the OnePass account number.

3. If the link is successful, attempt the transfer. Normally transfers to OnePass are instantaneous, brother-in-law should be able to see the miles immediately, but don't panic if not because system maintainence is sometimes performed at the weekend.
