I was very happy to see that Hertz is now offering the Audi Q7 ? Do they offer the 3.7 Litre or 4.2 Powertrain ?

Has anyone had any experiences with this vehicle ?

We don't get the 3.7L in the American market -- only the 3.6L V6 and 4.2L V8. I saw a few of them at LAX earlier in the week, I think they were 4.2L models...

You think the Q7 would have all the goodies (like that air suspension) on that 4.2, prashok?

I'm tryin' to decide between the 'Lade and the Q7...

Possibly -- the Audis are usually pretty well-equipped. Though they may not have the more expensive options, only the common ones.

But with more locations now carrying the '07 Escalade, either one would be a good choice... ^

Of the times I rented an Audi (A8 in HNL / SNA, A6 in YVR / LAX / SFO), they all have the original Navigation unit "disabled."

The cars all obviously have the Navigation unit, but just not the Navi disc. I asked around and around for them, but no one seems to be able to provide them for me. All I was told is that all Navigation units are "disabled."

Without the discs, these cars are without GPS (since NeverLost units are not installed in them).

Only once in YVR I got one installed with the NeverLost.

Yes, I got lost in HNL with no Navi.....

Hopefully these Q7 have the original GPS

I checked again at SFO and it seems they have some 3.6L models too. So it could be either one!

P.S. I had an Audi A8 out of SJC several months ago that had factory navi enabled, so hopefully the OEM units are being activated in the newer fleets...

Once had the A8 with only 1,100 miles.. and the Navi was disabled!

Disabled or their nav discs stolen / removed? Those discs are quite valuable and cost several hundred dollars from the Audi dealer. I don't think there is any way to bold the discs to the car or prevent the drive from ejecting them.

Having driven a Q7 several times, I can say that it is much nicer than a Trailblazer. Though if you don't like gadgets, a nice badge, and sporty drive (for an big SUV), then any SUV would probably be just fine.

Sleep deprivation caused me to confuse the Audi Q7 with the Saab 9-7X... d'oh!

Is the NAVI the original or the "Get Lost"?

The original navigation was not installed and car had the updated "get lost" system. The antenna was placed inside the windshield on the passenger side so reception was not very good at all !

Since I own an Audi, I usually bring my NAV DVD with...I've tried to burn it before but have been unsuccessful.

I believe all A8s have the nav; it's still optional on the A4, S4, A6 and Q7.

Apparently they have them at ORD. Anybody catch what trim models they have there?

I assume it's the 3.6, but I wonder what options it has (like the 20" wheels) it has...it's much cheaper than the FX, Navigator, and Escalade...

Cheaper price-wise...or your subjective assessment? ;)

The Q7 is the most expensive of them all. All loaded up, this is the price breakout:

Q7 - $59,900
Escalade - $57,055
FX45 - $49,850
Navigator - $50,655

Im not sure about your numers. I know that a base model escalade and navigator is like 54K so all loaded Im sure it can go to the early 60s.

I meant price-wise according to Hertz's rates... :)

You could get a Navi or Escalade close to $70K if you wanted to...I don't think you can get the Audi *that* high...

Curiosity got the best of me :), so:

Per Lincoln.com, the Navigator starts at $46,575. With every option, about the highest I could get the Navigator was $57k.

With the Escalade, I was able to get the ESV version up to $71k, and that included 22s. :)

And at Audi, a fully loaded 4.2FSI Q7 comes in a $71k.

lol, I stand corrected. Wow, that's about $20K of options on that 4.2 - just crazy.

The Navi is pretty cheap, then. :)

Yeah, although with the Audi...you can get the 3.6 model that starts around $50k (same as the "short" Escalade).

What I will say is the option list on the Audi is much more extensive and unique (smart key, active cruise control, lane change assist, etc.) whereas the Caddy is traditional and, for the most part, boring...like 22" rims are a $4k option, and the entertainment pkg is about $5k...

$70k on the Audi gets one a lot of technology in a SUV; $70k on the Escalade gets one a big box of metal that's featured in hip-hop music videos. :D :D
