Hi -

Could anyone with experience in NZ advise me on the following for an upcoming three week trip: 1 week North Island and 2 weeks South Island:

1. Better one rental or two separate (North and South) ?
2. Best CDP to use for NZ ?
3. Best PC Code to use ?
4. Other recommendations ?

Many thanks,

kzoom

I had the best luck just using my United CDP and no PC. Couldn't find any useful deals for an automatic (manual has a couple of discounts, but I'm not particularly inclined to remember to drive on the left and remember how to shift all at the same time, coming off nearly 30 hours of flying).

As for one rental or two, if you're taking the ferry across, keep it as one. Just contact Hertz before you're ready to cross, you drop the car on the north island at the ferry terminal and pick one up when you get off the ferry at the sound island (or vice versa). You can't take the cars themselves from one island to another (easier inventory mgmt for them, and saves you the car ferry fees).

Here's a free day offer valid for New Zealand:

PC# 996715

I guess it might make sense to split your rentals if it means you can better take advantage of the free days - just depends what comes out cheaper.
