Can anyone suggest a 'luxury' tour provider? Not interested in pretend wild west shows and other tacky stuff.

I thought about taking a helicopter ride (either around the city at night or to the Grand Canyon in the day). Anybody done that before? Is it fun? Where did you go to find them? About how much and how long in terms of time? Thanks! hlburi Mar 1, 08, 5:55 pm Headed to Vegas next weekend and looking for something new and fun to do. I'd also check with the Concierge at your hotel for suggestions. goosegreen Mar 1, 08, 6:15 pm I went on the Neon lights helicopter ride over the strip at night. It was fabulous! I booked on-line at Papillon's website before we got there and got a discount. The actual time in the helicopter is only about 15 mins - they take you north up the strip on the MGM side then turn around and come back down the other side. You get great views! They pick you up from your hotel and total time is probably 2hrs or so. IIRC, the cost was US$75 but that was back in 2004. http://www.papillon.com/ Carter29072 Mar 4, 08, 3:56 pm We did the helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon last summer thru looktours. Go to www.looktours.com. We chose to do the grand canyon helicopter tour with the landing in the basin of the grand canyon with the picnic lunch. It was awesome. I would recommend the early morning time slot. You are picked up from your hotel in a limo and taken to the heliport. The pilot takes you on a tour of the grand canyon, over the hoover dam . The tour is narrated. You will land in the grand canyon for about 30 minutes and have a light champagne lunch and walk around, take pictures, etc. On your way back to the heliport, you fly over the strip. What an awesome view. The cost was approx $300 per person. It was worth every penny! We would do it again in a heartbeat! jswong Mar 6, 08, 12:13 am Thanks Carter29072 for the link. Looks like just the thing for me and have just booked one ^ Jeff Carter29072 Mar 6, 08, 6:04 am Great! I hope you have a wonderful time and don't forget the camera! Best trip we ever took! chrisb Mar 12, 08, 12:20 am Carter29072, why do you recommend the morning timeslot? Thanks, Chrisb. Carter29072 Mar 12, 08, 7:50 am Carter29072, why do you recommend the morning timeslot? Thanks, Chrisb. Actually, we went in July and we chose the early morning slot because it was much cooler first thing in the morning. I think the afternoon temperatures got to 114 degrees that week. You wouldn't have to worry about that this time of year. Sorry, I didn't think about that when I posted above. cogitate Mar 12, 08, 9:22 pm Headed to Vegas next weekend and looking for something new and fun to do. I thought about taking a helicopter ride (either around the city at night or to the Grand Canyon in the day). Although you specifically asked about a helicopter ride, possibly to the Grand Canyon, I'd like to suggest that you consider a Scenic Airline daytrip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back for something like 8 hours. It is utterly spectacular, both from the air and from time on the ground at the South Rim where you also get lunch. They pick you up at your hotel and return you there. The Scenic Airlines planes are wonderfully designed with huge windows allowing unobstructed and breathtaking views. I have taken this trip twice, and they remain as wondrous memories. Mrp Alert Mar 16, 08, 4:30 am Scenic earns DL RDMs if you book through this link (http://www.scenic.com/saws1_delta_skymiles.htm). As this is FlyerTalk, it should be our only consideration :) Petrus Jun 22, 09, 12:07 pm I've made some research into this for an upcoming trip in July and found a few operators. Before splashing out between 300-500USD per person, I'd like to hear if anyone here can recommend a specific tour operator? Looking for hotel pick-up to LAS airport, heli to the canyon and land, with Champagne and then preferably head back over the strip on the return. Date is 4th of July. Are there fireworks displays in Vegas this fine day? :) Thanks ^ Professor Yaffle Jun 24, 09, 4:35 am Whilst the 'copter trips are fine if you are in a hurry and want to get a glimpse of the canyon, the only real way to experience it is from the bottom. We took a 3 day rafting trip the other month with Western River Expeditions - by far and away the best trip we have ever taken - I cannot recommend these guys highly enough, and the scenery is astonishing. :D CaliforniasCentralCoast Jun 25, 09, 5:55 pm Tour a helicopter tour of the strip and enjoyed. Sunset is a great time to do the tour. |
