Hi all,
I need help. I have about 70,000 MR points that I earned from my AX gold card and wanted to transfer them to one of the airline FF programs. I prefer domestic airline programs because I don't plan to travel abroad for sometime. AA, Alaska Airline, and United programs are my 3 favorite programs since I already have some miles built up with them. Unfortunately, they are not the options for my AX gold card's MR points. I looked at my MR options and I believe that Continental and Delta are my only 2 options. I'm debating which FF program that I should transfer my MR points over? I have two concerns as follows:
1) If I transfer my MR points to Delta FF program, and sometime later, if Delta files for bankruptcy, will I loose my FF miles?
2) Between these 2 programs (Delta and Continental), which one allows you more choices booking with their affliate partners? For example, can I call Continental and ask them to redeem my Continental FF miles for a domestic flight by Alaska Air?
Thanks in advance for your help

Delta Airlines is already in bankruptcy. The US airline industry has a good record of protecting the mileage balances in frequent flyer accounts, but there is some risk.

Another possibility to investigate would be a transfer to Mexicana which offers award flights on American Airlines...

However, before you transfer to Mexicana you should verify that they will permit the miles to be used for a redemption on a partner airline. such as AA. I believe Mexicana does not allow miles that have been transferred "in" to be transferred "out" to another program such as Hilton, but a redemption is different.

Yes, you can redeem CO points for a flight operated by AS. You can also redeem CO points for several other partners. The biggest pain with that is that you have to call CO to make the booking and you can't check it online. As long as you can live with that you should be OK.
