KLM Flying Dutchman - Just how bad does the KLM web site suck?

Since I have only recently moved over to FD from WorldPerks, I don't have much experience using the Web site. I logged in tonight to look for some flights; this is the first time I have had more than a quick glance around.

The first three times I tried to load it, the browser locked up while Java was trying to load.

There are a list of "top destinations" on the home page, and the link for "more special offers" just reloads the same bloated mess another time.

Under the "Specials and Offers" link on the left, several options come up. One is "Action Fares" but the "book now" link isn't a link, just text, and doesn't go anywhere.

The "Destinations and Fares" Link contains "special fares to destinations around the globe, valid until October 2003".

There is another offer for "SPECIAL STRUCTURAL FARES" which takes you directly to the "please wait...searching for flights" screen and then the browser locks up again. On a second attempt, I get a page that says "ACTION FARES. We are currently unable to provide online booking facilities due to technical difficulties. We apologise for the inconvenience."

Sigh.

Is this par for the course, or is it maybe because I am using the Spain site? Is this the online version of "I'm sorry, that is not possible."? How does one actually go about booking a ******* flight on this ****ing thing?

It was working fine for me earlier today, though I have seen it malfunction on other occasions.

What browser are you using?

For the Spain site here the initial page loads OK.

"Top Destinations", "more special offers" on the home page reloads the same page like it does for you.

For "Specials and Offers", "Action Fares", the "book now" link isn't a link, just text same as you get. To get to the Action Fares click on the Action Fares at the main navigation menu on the left.

"Valid until October 2003" is a tast of how well the KLM site is maintained.

The link for "STRUCTURAL SPECIAL FARES" takes you to a screen to select a destination and when you select the destination you get the "We are currently unable to provide online booking facilities due to technical difficulties. We apologise for the inconvenience" message.

Welcome to the wonderful world of KLM.

It seems that logging into the KLM website never seems to be remembered. I'm constantly being prompted to re-enter my number and password, even though I just did it three screens ago...

My problem is: there is no way to access the current promotions, or -- once in hotel list within Partners -- to check how many points per stay with different hotel chains.

However, the disfunctionality of the KLM website notwithstanding, in general: would you rather have too much security or too little?
