I searched previous threads and apologize if this has been answered in the past. I have 3 free Q3FN awards plus 2 free hotel night certificates. My brother's 30th birthday is coming up in June and wanted to see if I could book a room for him using these. The Diamond CSR rep said that I could use them together, however, they are not transferable but I could add him to the reservation and he could still check in. I do not plan on being there in June.

Can anyone let me know if there is anyway he could use these certificates without me being there? I have never used the free certificates before so I don't know 1. how it works and 2. if I add him to the reservation and he checks in without me being there would that work?

Thanks!

I have done the same with paid reservations and points reservations in the hilton chain, so I would imagine it would be the same thing. You'd be booking the reservation in your name, and adding your brother as a secondary person on file (just make sure you confirm with the hotel they have his name in the system and that he can check in for you).

Normally I say it this way:
I won't be able to make it until later, can my xxxx check in for me? His name is XXXXX. Of course I never show up, but the hotel doesn't know that, nor do they care as long as the cert goes through.

Call Diamond Desk and explain...Then ask??

I tried this using the Q3FN for a friend and was very strictly told by the Diamond Desk that no additional names could be added to a reservation made using these certs. YMMV.

This may be a case of YMMV, but I have had reservations set-up by the Diamond Desk reps and then I later called the hotel directly to add a second guests name to the reservation. (It may have helped that the staff at the hotels where I did this have me on file as a frequent guest; but I also know that a cousin pulled off the same thing without issue for his parents.)

Thanks for the information everyone. I went ahead and called DD and set it up, adding my brother as another guest. Based on what I have read, I don't foresee this being a problem. I am going to make sure all of the certificates are at the hotel before he shows up so all he has to do is check in and enjoy his stay.

I think trying to get the certificate to the hotel before your brother arrives is a recipe for disaster...just have him bring the certificate with him and present it at checkin like any other guest would do.

Your suggestion is better since it's more standard. Rather than sending the certificate in advance I'd have the certificate number noted in the reservation itself and send a copy of the certificate to the party checking in which can be presented upon check-in.
