A quick look at the Marriott website confirms what I half-joked under my breath when I read this... Kalamazoo.

There's only a Fairfield in BC, all other "nearby" Marriott properties are in K-zoo, wher eyou can pick from another Fairfield or a Residence Inn.

For a town with a MAJOR F100 Company, the lodging locations are not very good. If you are tied to a rewards programs take the offering of Fairfield/Hampton, etc. Otherwise go to Kalamazoo, travel the 20 something miles everyday, where the offerings are better if only slightly better.

The chain lodging locations are right on I-94 in Battle Creek about 10 minutes from downtown. I always stay at the Hampton or Fairfield but they book up fast so plan ahead. Also the better dining locations are around the lodging locations along I-94.

so which hotel in Kalamazoo did you choose ?;)

I just had a stay at the FI Kalamazoo East, hallway floors are a bit wonky, other than that typical FI feel/comfort. Each of the staff I had interaction with was very friendly.

I've stayed in Battle Creek several times for work -- there is a brand new full-service Holiday Inn in BC which is very nice.

Otherwise there is a Fairfield Inn that is also fairly new and nice.

The Hampton Inn needs to be remodeled and there are a few other chain hotels in the same area but they are definitely not somewhere I would recommend.

Also, avoid the McCamly Plaza in downtown Battle Creek -- it is in dire need of being redone, I've had co-workers stay there that keep their shoes next to the bed!

I'd definitely go with the Holiday Inn but if you can't get that, go with Fairfield. All the hotels are within 5 minutes of each other and there are a ton of small restaurants you can grab breakfast/dinner at.

Let me know if you need anymore advice on the area.

I will be spending some time in Battle Creek as well. Booked the Fairfield for now as I only need 10 more nights to keep Platinum this year.
