Hilton HHonors - No Double Dip miles when combining a paid night(s) with a reward night(s)??

I noticed that DD miles were not posting to my DL account. DIA desk says policy is that this kind of entire stay is considered a reward and no double dip miles are allowed to your chosen airline, etc. unless you check out for 24 hours and check back in. How ridiculous and inconvenient. A paid night is a paid night. I've never encountered this before. Is this true?

Yes, it's true, and it also applies when you have two rooms in one night and one of them is an award.

I just did a paid night and a reward night at the Embassy Suites in Portland. I booked the award and paid reservations separately on-line and then asked that they combine the reservation when checking in so I wouldn't have to check out and check in again.

I got the double dip.

So maybe that's the key to getting the double dip - have two separate reservations until day of stay.

does it make a difference if the paid night is teh 1st night followed by the free night , and you have 2 different res #s for them?

I didn't know one could make a single mixed paid/award reservation - I thought they'd have to be done as separate confirm#'s? Logically, it would seem that doing the paid night first would more likely trigger the double dip.

but if the award night is the first night, even if combined, the points will not post. you have than to call the diamond desk and get them to manually post it.

I used an AXON award and also added a paid night. The Double Dip points appeared without any problem. The paid night was at the end of the stay. It was a separate reservation.

I had two occassions this fall that were just like this. No points posted until I had Diamond Desk do it.

Seems like there are some tricks to this. DIA desk refused to add the miles. I'll try again as both of my experiences were separate res #'s.

Here's the response from the DIA desk:

Mr. S,

Again, thank you for sharing you concern about our policies. Your comments are
crucial to the success of our organization and will be passed along to our
Marketing Department.

We do value your business and would like to offer you a one time exception for
these two stays. However, at this time it is only an exception and each
subsequent stay will not yield any miles when booked under these circumstances.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Funny thing is, they posted the DD points to my HH account and not my DL account as usual. Geeez. Whats mesed up>?

It worked ok for me at a 4-night stay at the Hilton London Kensington recently. First 2 days were on an award stay, last two were on a prepaid net direct rate. Didn't have to officially re-check-in. On HHonors it got combined into one stay, but I still got HHonors points for the total cost+bonuses of the paid portion, and got my double dip miles.

I just got off the phone to diamond special services. I asked for a price on 2 nights prepaid and then an award night. the lady said it was illegal to do that and the HOTEL CAN CANCEL the award night as u cant combine a prepaid stay with an award.
I said ok ill book them seperately she said if you want to take the chance the hotel can cancel.
Ive never heard that before in my life. ive been doing paid and award stays for over 14 yrs.

I do remember a post about this about a year ago. I thought it was rubbish so didnt take much notice. I have just searched but cant find it.

any one had any experience with this.

Whats the diffference between that and a 6 night paid and 6 night award at the same time (2 rooms at once):(

Sounds like rubbish to me as well. perhaps this is the thread? (and as you know this is being discussed in another thread just a few posts ways) But there is nothing definitive here either. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=520140
Sounds like a call back to get a different CSR case to me.
