I've got a couple of upcoming rentals in Zurich and Brussels. Right now I'm requesting an intermediate with navigation, manual transmission ok. Any ideas what I will get or should I request a full if an EU intermediate might pop me into a Smart Car ?? :) For the Zurich Rental we WILL be driving a lot (into Austria and around Switzerland), for the Brussels rental it will be more local travel. Any comments appreciated.

Hmm, no insight other than the one??

Would I be better off asking for an Automatic or Manual if I wanted to get a nice car? I'm getting the Nav option, and base request is for an Intermediate (but I'm 5* if that might help).

Go to http://www.hertz.com .

Click "Locations, Cars, and More".

Click "Vehicle Guide".

Put in the location (e.g. "Zurich").

Select the type of vehicle (e.g. "Car/Convertible", "Estate", etc.).

Click each vehicle to determine its size class (even without clicking, you'll see the passenger and luggage capacity and manual or automatic transmission symbols by each vehicle).

I flew into BRU quite a few times back in 2005 and I always booked a "B" car (I guess that would a Compact, right?). Their selection in that class is not real good, but at least I never got put into Smarts... Lots of Opel Astras, and I drove a Ford Focus C Max MPV way too many times. I also drove an A-Class Mercedes, which will forever rank as a completely forgettable experience.

After I made Presidents' Circle, they started bumping me to "C" class, which I believe is the equivalent to Intermediate. I got many Ford Mondeo and Opel Vectra vehicles, in various configurations (the station wagon being the more common). I know they have several Renaults, Volvos, and Mercedes Benzes, but I never got anything remotely interesting. Serviceable, yes. Interesting, no. YMMV....

As Presidents Circle I always book C class best upgrade from that Jaguar X-type ZHR and MErcedes E class BRU. It just depends on what they have
