Hertz - Whats the deal with the status sweeps??

I did my 10+ rentals from jan-dec 06 and sent an email about being upgraded to 5* status. I received a reply saying that they confirm I have enough rentals, and that they will sweep in APRIL at which point I will become 5* good until the following April.

Now doesnt this seem rather silly? I've done my 10 rentals, and instead of just giving me the status they basically delay the whole thing by 4 months, during these 4 months there is no incentive at all for me to rent more from Hertz (I wont rent enough to get PC). Or am I missing something? -do my rentals from this January count towards the next status sweep in April 2008??

The rentals you do now count towards status for NEXT year. The bit about a sweep in April is a blow-off answer. Yes, if you don't take action, the computer will automatically upgrade you in April. But, if you call Gold customer service they will do it for you now as a courtesy. It shouldn't take more than 1-2 days to see the update on your account.

Well thats what I thought, but the semi point of the email was to see if they'd just do it, but they didn't. If I call them now and they do, would that mean that the status would be good until next april of just for 12 months?

Well I called the UK office today to see if they would manually update me, and they said they don't do that, but that the sweep took place on January 7th.

Packs and cards should be sent out after a little while and should arrive around end of feb....

However they did say that they could manually enter that I was now 5* into any bookings I made so that I would get a car upgrade if available.
